Mounting Plate From Axle to Caliper Wrong Size
It's been a while since I've been on here and since I've worked on my truck, but I'm finally getting back to it and to a much dreaded part, running the brake lines and hooking up the brake system. I was starting to mount the calipers today when I noticed the mounting pieces between the axle and the caliper are completely wrong. I bought these brakes like 2 years ago so I'd have to dig way back into my emails if I still even have any of them from when I bought them. It's a 12" rotor on a 12 bolt rear end, used to be 6-lug but re-drilled the axles to a 5. The caliper is a Baer 1-piston, I forgot the name but I can check tomorrow, didn't see it now when I quickly browsed their site, but remember something GT in there.
This is the gap I'm getting. Can I get different mounting pieces somewhere and what kind? The mounting pieces also have the holes farther apart than they are on the axle. What is this piece on the top? Looks like two of the holes match up to the mounting pieces but I have no clue... |

Re: Mounting Plate From Axle to Caliper Wrong Size
I think bracket on the top bolts to the axle flange and then the other bracket (dark one) will bolt up to the caliper. And it's adjustable for moving the caliper on the rotor. I could be wrong.

Re: Mounting Plate From Axle to Caliper Wrong Size
That would make sense with all the spacing, but how do I get it on there? The only way I can think of is to cut it up but that will weaken it...

Re: Mounting Plate From Axle to Caliper Wrong Size
You'll have to pull the axles out and bolt it up to where the factory drums backing plate bolted up to. (four bolt holes) On the rear end housing flange not the axle flange. Sorry about that.

Ok I guess I'll have to look into how hard that will be unless I just take it to the axle shop that already did a bunch of work on it for me.. Maybe see about narrowing it while I'm at it. Wish I would have narrowed it when I put $1200 into it

Re: Mounting Plate From Axle to Caliper Wrong Size
Went to the axle shop that did all my previous work and they said they'd do it for free! Pretty happy now! Well besides figuring out the rest of my brake lines and all...
