I don't know, but someone who knows will chime in soon. It's something that people either love or hate around here.

Hey paul...here's a build tread that used a stepside (which I know you said you prefer fleet), but maybe it'll give ya some ideas....http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=180941

and this one they discuss it too....http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=374579

Re: Try to put a 90's short fleet side on a 72 stepside

Not trying to be mean just wondering why, the step sides line up decent with the lower shape of the 72 truck were that's all that would line up on a fleet. If you just wants to do it so the truck has a bed that's fine and a cheap solution, if you want it to match up and flow good it may cost more than finding a good or repairable factory bed. Since you can swap a 90 step side and fleetside on a 90 truck with no changes then you should be able to put a 90 fleet on a 72 by doing the same thing as the people do to put the steppers on.

I agree that I don't think a late model fleetside bed will look good on a C-10. However this idea popped in my head. What about installing 67-72 bedsides onto the late model bed. Just an idea.

I put a 94 step side on mine for the same reason and uses 3/4 square stock under front of bed and 1 1/4 under rear works great.and body line match up well.i didnt think i would like at first but with min beeing lowered 5 inches it looks good.

The shape of the bed side doesn't match the shape of your cab. It can be done fairly easily, maybe some drilling or spacers.

Re: Try to put a 90's short fleet side on a 72 stepside

Because the Fleet short bed for a 72 in my area are hard to find also people want too much money for a old rusted one. I have a LOT of 90's fleetside short bed in my area going for real cheap. I know i can install a 90's step side but i dont like the step sides. If im gonna buy a bed i rather but the ones i like.

So do i have to due a lot of custom work to it ?

As if you even needed to answer someone who answered your question with a question. I always figured your answer was the obvious reason. We all do what we like, such as some people changing GMCs into Chevys or putting a computer in such a blessedly simple vehicle or...? I'm glad to see Geoff be of help for you. A lot of guys complain about the different wheel well shape more than anything.I didn't follow Geoff's links, but there have been truck that someone made the bed wheel wells round and it shut a lot of critics up.
