Suburban purchase questions
I am looking at buying a 64 2wd burb. It doesn't have an engine or tranny, but I have a fresh 327 and t-350 to put in it.
I have never owned a burb so what do I need to look for as far as rust areas, missing parts that are tough to locate, etc. I has the upper and lower type rear doors and has the rear bumper. I know firewall forward they are basically the same as a pickup, but what rear end do they use? are they coil or leaf in a chevy burb? burb guys educate me on what to look for and watch out for. The guy is wanting $1000.00 bucks, and I have plenty of 4-5-6 pickup parts for the missing stuff up front Thanks

Re: Suburban purchase questions
Yes it is in Oklahoma, So far I have just looked at online pictures. It has layers of paint but doesn't look too bad as far as rust and dents. The price seems resoanable, I want to know what to look closely at when I go check it out in person.

Re: Suburban purchase questions
+1 on this. I got my burb a few months ago (going to start working on it soon), and I'm not having any luck finding a replacement rear bumper. And what's on it was definitely used for bumping...

Re: Suburban purchase questions
A suburban rear bumper is the same as a front bumper, it's just drilled different. Plug some holes drill new ones and it's all good.

Re: Suburban purchase questions
Take a good look at the channels on the sliding rear windows. They are subject to rusting out, and can be hard to find, or repair.
As for the suspension and running gear, it's all the same as a pickup. The wheelbase is the same as a shortbed pickup.

Re: Suburban purchase questions
I like taking a small step ladder with me and a creeper. I'm not one for cancer.the Floor boards need to be in good shape can't tell from on top so take a friend and a flash light and bug spray.fenders you can fix they will be bad they don't drain worth of crap look for cracks in the frame where the shocks bolt to it all all the other stuff these guys are telling you remember the cancer is your biggest problem.if your not a body man and there is cancer add another 3000.00 to the price tag for some one else doing the repairs.Be safe Yes you want it but don't go in being stupid. Cus times are hard enough and your in the snow and cancer states take a magnet with you
