new member, 87 silverado in NYC
Hi All,
Bought this 87 R10 silverado from a guy down in Virginia back in July, been slowly going through it. Found a lot of great info on here. looked like this when I got it. I need to take some more pictures of how it looks now so far have replaced the dash pad and the door skins, put some edelbrock IAS shocks on it. Got new Goodyear Wrangler Radial tires on it new. Fixed the AC and ended up having to replace the fuel pumps and water pump. finally got around to taking off the vinyl pinstripe Unfortunately I had somebody run into me last month, so had to replace the whole LH fender, radiator support and grill etc... just got it back on the road. Put LMC's grill on there, pretty happy with how it looks Maybe a crate motor in the next year or two but it runs good as is, even with 200k... my daily driver Mostly work and build old h-d's but been fun to work on a truck, I love driving it. I had a 77 F150 before this and this is probably the best upgrade i've ever made! haha Last edited by NYC87chevy; 12-19-2011 at 10:24 PM. |

sweet, grill was a good choice.. guess being in nyc you can't keep extra fenders in the barn, with your parts truck..

Re: new member, 87 silverado in NYC
thanks man.
Yeah, I actually have a pretty good sized shop in brooklyn that I split with a couple friends, but it's filled with bikes and tooling. no room for a parts truck but did end up with an extra fender that's nicer than the one I put on there |

Re: new member, 87 silverado in NYC
thanks Bob!
Been here 13 years and this is the first time I've had that happen, guy sent me into the concrete divider on the williamsburg bridge and took off. was pouring rain and i slid right into it. The shortbed is certainly easier to park in my neighborhood too. I can fit a stock rigid harley in the back with the tailgate up if I put it an angle too which is nice |

Awesome truck! I love looking at old photos of NYC from the 70s 80s and early 90s with all the old cars/trucks lining the streets. I'm sure NYC saw their fair share of square bodies!

Nice find, my friend. No offense, but the coldest winter I EVER spent in my life was the one year I went to Fordham. It was too much for a SoCal kid to take! Have fun with your square, you've got a keeper.

Re: new member, 87 silverado in NYC
Thanks!!
yeah, actually originally from central california. I plan on keeping the stock height. Keeping the Th400r. Maybe put a fresh crate motor or rebuild mine at some point in the next year if funds allow. Right now just gotta finish the interior, and maybe some headers and an exhaust in the next few months. On the fence on whether to Line-x or paint the bed, want to do it before we get heavy snow. I do use the hell out of the truck so it's not a show car. Also want to do some type of undercoating to help it survive the salt and snow. Has almost no rust at all and would like to keep in as good of a shape as I can, but I still park it on the street. |

Re: new member, 87 silverado in NYC
there is no way you can keep th at truck on the street in Brooklyn and not expect to have it destroyed. One of the main reasons i got out of brooklyn was after i moved back and stayed for about five years i spent over $7000 on body work that was resulting from idiots hit and running my vehicles. Granted $4000 was one complete job when a moving truck took the entire side off of my dodge caravan, but between mirrors and just the animals that seem to pass through, i was getting a multitude of dents and scratches.. I see youre on the north side from the pics.. lots of truck traffic youll find numerous dings from them too

Re: new member, 87 silverado in NYC
Truck looks good. Which brings me to a question. I have the opportunity to buy one just like urs. 87, 350tbi and 700r4u all factory. It has some rust areas on the doors but that is about it. 4k. What do you all think on price. Is that a good price.

Re: new member, 87 silverado in NYC
well, I've been here a long time and been pretty lucky but i don't have a lot of choice anyway. you gotta live with the cards you get, I need to be here for work so here i am. I actually live in alphabet city... this recent run in is the only time i've been hit in the last 13 years besides having a mirror knocked off.
i don't expect it to be destroyed but I've also been here long enough to know what i'm doing. if **** happens it happens ya know. i hear ya buddy but i'll be ok. been parking on the street for years and years... and the people in the neighborhood keep an eye out for me. I paid 3500 for the truck, which is why i got on a plane and flew down to get it. drove like **** till i figured out the fuel line was kinked from someone letting it twist when they were putting a fuel filter on |
