1969 GMC Long Bed

Here is my 69 GMC long bed. I am hoping by next summer to be finished with it, but we shall see.

I plan on Air Bagging the truck, tubular front suspension and c-notch the rear.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed

Here are some more pictures of the disassembly. the fenders are shot, the inner fenders are as well. The cab floor, the rockers, inner rockers, cab corners all bad. The bed for the most part is shot as well.

As you can see, no power steering and or power brakes, this was a fully running truck before disassembly. I put the carb and intake on a month ago or so, since the old 2 barrel was about to fall apart.

This is a 69 GMC Long Bed. Factory 350 with three on the tree. Not sure if this is the origanal motor though, the exhaust manifolds have smog hookups, I suppose someone could have just swapped them for what ever reason.

some more pictures of the disassembly.

The hood is in good condition. The grill is as well, but will need a new upper trim piece and side pieces as well.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed

cool, do the new wheels fit over the hubs on the 69? i tried to put some 99 NBS chrome wheels on my 67 years ago and the hub hole was too small.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed

no, they are different size, but I will have them bored when my new suspension gets delivered, I could make a jig and use a router and bore them out, but there is a machine shop down the street.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed

Got some new parts last week, Ive been slowly putting it together, and now Since Ive test fit everyting time to blow it all apart and start painting.

I have to have my frame inspected it, appears the truck may have been hit in the side, it doesnt appear to affect anything and the truck didnt dogtrack or hav any adverse issues because of it.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed

I got my new frame; everything stripped and finished mocking up all the suspension. I am very happy with the new frame, especially since the last one was junk. Just wish I would have bought a better condition truck to begin with. Oh well.

I was originally going to go with a PB rear kit, but I think I want the box intact, so I will use this and if I get tired of it, I will order the PB mild kit for the rear. I must say, though after dealing with Porterbuilt, the CPP Notches are complete **** in comparison, no quality what so ever, the holes don’t line up, the bends don’t line up. Good thing I have a torch to persuade it. Here are some pics.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed

It been a while since I post anything, so here are some updates. I have most of my floor repairs done. Just need to finish off my cab corners and time for paint. I have quite decided If I want to fully paint it or make it have a patina look.

I installed my PB hinges and recently started welding in patches to smooth the firewall.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed

I am wondering what tire and rim size I can run with my PB drop member. does anyone know what the max rim or tire size is? I think the stockers that I have on there are 15" 225 70r. I think the tire height was about 28" and I only have about 1/2" of clearance at full drop.

Nice job! I have a long bed too and am interested in the stance yours will have when the bodies all together. I'll keep watching.

Re: 1969 GMC Long Bed

Thanks, it sits on the ground in the front. A little higher in the back than I like. But I want to have a full box to use. And the air ride will make it ride nice.
