Re: 65 Suburban Weight?

Here is info from the 6066 GMC Jolly website for GMC's; Jolly get's all the credit....remember GMC V-6's are a bit heavier....Thanks Jolly

With that said, I'll give you the info on 64-66 GMC Trucks, as I don't
have the Chevy info. This comes from the 1966 Dealer Data book.

1001 - front 2355, Rear 985, Total 3340.
1002 - front 2375, Rear 1030, Total 3405.
I1001 - front 1925, Rear 985, Total 2910.
I1002 - front 1945, Rear 1025, Total 2970.
1001 - Suburban front 2245, rear 2140, total 4385.
I1001 - Suburban front 1735, rear 2010, total 3745.
K1001 - Suburban front 2395, rear 2185, total 4580.
K1001 - front 2585, Rear 1160, Total 3745.
K1002 - front 2655, Rear 1175, Total 3830.
1502 - front 2565, Rear 1195, Total 3760.
I1502 - front 2135, Rear 1195, Total 3330.
K1502 - front 2805, Rear 1285, Total 4090.
2502 - front 2650, Rear 1275, Total 3925.
2503 - front 2655, Rear 1295, Total 3950.
2505 - front 2680, Rear 1320, Total 4000.
I2502 - front 2220, Rear 1275, Total 3495.
I2503 - front 2225, Rear 1295, Total 3520.
I2505 - front 2250, Rear 1320, Total 3570.

That is for the base chassis & cab with V6 three speed no options. The
bed was an option so you need to add bed weight for pickups. Bed weights
come from the 1962 Dealer Data book.

6-1/2' wide side 395
8' wide side 470
6-1/2' fender side 360
8' fender side 420
Panel Truck 650
9' fender side 825
10-1/2' Panel 800

The Panel Truck is an option for the Pickup, not the Suburban.

In the 64-66 run you could get a inline Chevy engine as well, they show
it's not rated as high in GVW for the 1/2 ton model. Here are the GVW &
GCW ratings. GCW is your towing weight

1000 - GVW 5200, GCW 8000
I1000 - GVW 5000, GCW 8000
K1000 - GVW 5600, GCW 8000
1500 - GVW 7500, GCW 11000, I & K series too
2500 - GVW 8800, GCW 14500 single wheel
2500 - GVW 10000, GCW 14500 Dual Wheel

So by these numbers you can see that the inline six 1/2 was rated less
than the V6 model only on total truck weight, towing is the same. 1500 &
2500 series all share the same numbers for both GVW & GCW.

So if you have a V6 powered short wide bed at 3735 lbs, that leaves you
1465 lbs for passengers & load, which is about 3/4 of a ton, so with two
good sided guys up front, your total load you could add would be about a
1/2 ton or 1000 lbs.
