63 C10 today ascross the scales
Today a pretty decent ( for buying crusher junk ) came ascross the scales, Blue and white with chrome, still had the radio delete plate. It has the bolt in low hump I need for my truck. It has the key in ignition, one in the glove box... I checked and they work the door lock too. There was also a 58 1/2 and an earlier 2 ton . We buy around 1/2 million dollars a month in scrap metal, so we get some pretty decent stuff for crushers sometimes.

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales
I'm just going to cry now, sniff. That's so sad.
If the moldings are not to bad I'd use them on my Airstream project. Fawn Firewall Finally a grill with both headlight bezels. Wonder if the vertical window guide is intact in the drivers door? Last edited by aerotruk63; 01-24-2012 at 09:31 PM. |

Man Sig, I cringe every time I see a new post from you about these poor souls.

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales
I see some old stuff, from the 40's and 50's at scrape yard. Amazing, guess people are in hurry to get their money or don't think the stuff is worth any thing.

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales
That is sad. I saw something similar today. sigshooter, are you able to bring any onto the old truck market? I am trying to with the help of a friend who runs a crusher. The high scrap price is a blessing and a curse. People are selling their old trucks, but you can't buy any $200.00 trucks now.

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales
I think that's a great idea, Sig. If you can find some bare land to store them and have the ability to get ahold of these for a reasonable price, you could make a decent profit just by parting them all out on the parts board here.
This just proves the old adage, "One man's junk is another man's treasure"

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales
Is it just a fleetside? Was the cameo a unibody?

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales
Usually not since they are headed for the crusher, Person selling it just signs a bill of sale stating the own it. Oklahoma law only requires a title if it is 10 years old or newer, otherwise just a bill of sale is required.

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales
Seems that all you crush is classic chevy trucks !!! I too have worked the same deal and sometimes there is just not room or time to get all the good stuff off , especially when it is 260 a ton (at least it is here)..........

Yes I dont always get everything I want, but I usually control when it gets crushed so I can hold it back for a lil while anyways. Here is a couple pics of what we call "bundles", each one contains about 4- 5 cars

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales
A good rust and dent free '63 hood is worth $260. How much does a hood weigh? Truck scrapped without a good hood would be about $2 to $3 bucks less? I know what I would do with collectable vehicle parts.

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales
Please don’t stop posting photos. Although it’s somewhere between disappointing and depressing to see all this vintage tin on the way to getting squashed, it’s also uplifting to realize there is apparently a generous supply of decent stuff still out there to be discovered.
Looking at all the stuff in that truck reminds me of a time back in the 1980’s when vehicles like this were regularly abandoned in front of our commercial building. Every one of them was stuffed with debris well beyond capacity. Once successfully abandoned without getting caught, the refuse heap became our responsibility as far as the city was concerned. The only solution left was to have one of our forklift guys place it across the street in front of a fire hydrant. It would soon be tagged by the police and hauled off by the city. |

Re: 63 C10 today ascross the scales
I believe I have seen flat bed semis coming down I35 towards Dallas, Texas from the operation that you work for. Is that where the cars and trucks are headed?
Yeah, I think it is a shame to crush the older stuff too. I would love to get my hands on a buildable 1960-1966 chevy or GMC. I check craigslist daily and it seems that most of the ads are for show type trucks or trucks with no motor and transmission and a body needing alot of work and the seller is wanting $2000. Not much really in between the two. I would like to have one that is driveable with a little work and that I could restore as I drive it. Well someday I hope I can. But anyways, thank you for the pictures. It is interesting to see what comes in. Keith |
