15in 8 bolt wheels
Friend of mine wants to trade my 35s for a set of his 40s, I didnt really want to go that big but i figure ill try it and see what happens i can always use them for mach up. But anyway i need to find 15in 8bolt wheels since i plan to run a 14bolt FF and a dana 60 front. Also what problems am i going to run into trying to run a 15in wheel i will have problems with clearing the front brake calipers correct?
I have heard with the proper backspacing i wouldnt have any problems with clearance or that i would have to grind the caliper. |

Re: 15in 8 bolt wheels
I run 15x10's with 5 inches of backspacing. I had to grind my calipers on my Dana 60 a LOT! On a 3/4 ton axle you have to grind a little, mainly the casting flash. With this being said, on my last truck I bought brackets from SMW ( SUMNER MACHINE WORKS) to use the 3/4 ton calipers and rotors on a Dana 60. They were priced high( $200 ) but are the only ones making them.
Here is a link to there website http://www.sumnermachine.com/ . I highly recommend there product. If I don't figure out how to use the brakes off of a 2500HD on my truck ( to match the rearend) I will be buying another set.

Re: 15in 8 bolt wheels
Chrome modulars, picked them up at my local tire shop for $70 each. There are pics of them in my built thread. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=499666
You can also get wagon wheels if you like that look.

Re: 15in 8 bolt wheels
In your opinion is there a better way than to grind down the calipers on the d60, is it going to hurt the structural integrity of the caliper itself?

Re: 15in 8 bolt wheels
You can go on ebay and buy new caliper brackets for a dana 60 that let you run a smaller dia. rotor and single piston caliper off of a 1/2 or 3/4 ton.

Re: 15in 8 bolt wheels
These are the flat ones that are made for the aftermarket 5 and 6 lug spindles. The will not work with the factory spindle, you need the bent ones.

Re: 15in 8 bolt wheels
Yes the bracket from SMW is the best way in my opinion. It looks awesome and still has all the stoping power needed.
I have ground the calipers on at least 10 trucks and never had a problem. These trucks drive down the road pulling trailers with 10,000lb trucks sitting on top of them. We also abuse our trucks by playing tug-a-truck with them. Around here they get used and abused and I have the upmost faith in them as they are daily drivers and snow pushers.

Re: 15in 8 bolt wheels
I've been looking for good 15 inch wheels for a while, but my particular needs might not be the same as yours. Most of the wheels I've seen have a 3.75 inch backspacing or something similar, I'm looking for 2 inch backspacing (less backspacing makes a wider stance Zero backspacing would mount the same level as the inner tire edge). I'm probably looking at custom wheels ($$$). Even with 2-inch backspacing and a Dana 44, I'm still looking at grinding the calipers to fit, probably about an inch deep.

Re: 15in 8 bolt wheels
Ok guys, I got home from work after it was dark so I couldn't get pics. Don't worry though because I found some on the web. Here are 2 examples of dana 60 calipers ground down to clear 15" rims, the one is a little more crude than the other. I smoothed out everything when doing mine, just thought it looked better. (even though it will never be seen) As you gan see there is still plenty of material there
