My new 42' dump
Well I was eyeballing this beauty for a few months now, my trailer finally sold, so of i went to pick her up. I was amazed at how small the rust was for a 70 yr old truck. As soon as i got home, I started tinkering with the lights, only had to change one taillight bulb. Everything works electric wise, the vacuum wipers even work, every gauge but fuel [not wired] works also. That will be first on the list, getting the fuel tank cleaned and plumbed. I also need a front seat, I have the original frame but it is to far gone IMO. PO also gave me a new cover and padding. It was also upgraded to 12 volt. Needs brakes, unscrewed MS cap and was empty and rusty. It's powered by the 261 which runs very well. The dump works flawlessly, even at idle she smoothly tilts. For now I will leave as is cause I like the patina. I am very impressed with this 1.5 ton truck. More pics to come, these were e-mailed from PO.

Re: My new 42' dump
That is so cool.... nice find. I like just about anything that has lots of levers sticking up out of the cab floor!

Re: My new 42' dump
I'd bet your wife can find all kinds of things for you to haul when you get that one up and running and driving. Rocks for the rock garden, bark, Gravel, your pile of stuff to the dump.
We used to have a county wide free dump day and my friend and I would be throwing stuff out of the pickup we were using and a guy we knew would back in with a truck about like that one and hit the lever, dump the load and be gone while we were still unloading. |

Too bad you're 3,000 miles away cause I have an almost pristine seat frame I bought for my now-departed '46 that would fit like a glove in that beast. I even had to find (VERY tough) and buy the under seat sheet metal tank surround for my truck but then ended up using a short third row seat out of a Dodger 12 passenger van. That fit like a glove but the seat back didn't fold, etc. Oh well, too bad the shipping charges would probably be more than the whole seat frame is worth! Nice truck. Congrats. |

Re: My new 42' dump
holy cow you had me going for a second, thank god you meant 1942 truck, and not a 42 foot dump haha
also, I think you have they ONLY car on the east coast that is over 50 years old and not a pile of orange-ish cancel rubble that thing is seriously SWEET!!! |

Re: My new 42' dump
That's such a great find. It may amaze some on the west coast, but these older vehicles survive fairly well back east. They had less "catch-alls" buit into the bodies,better/thicker steel, most got retired/semi-retired by the '50s due to much faster vehicles and hiways, and slat wasn't spread at the site of a snow flake the way it is now. But still, that truck is in great shape for it's age...anywhere.

Re: My new 42' dump
Thanks guys!!, I have to get some pics of the pto for you all, maybe some of you have seen this set up, the pto drive shaft goes direct to piston which houses the pump, valve all on the end of piston, no tank for hydro oil!!

Re: My new 42' dump
Harbor Freight sells a set of bits for $10 that includes three sizes of clutch head bits.
That's a beauty, great find. From the first engine pic, I don't think I've ever seen a truck that old with such nice un-chopped up wiring. |
