69 road runner

i have been on the hunt for a 70 plymouth satellite, give or take a few years, but the same body style. My dad bought a 70 brand new, and i have memories of traveling in the family car, thus my search.
went to look at this one today.


























seems like changing out the rear quarters, and the piece below the rear windshield would be a challenge for me.
car would come with a 4 sp tranny but no motor. the guy has all the interior and all the pieces to put back together.
your thoughts? does it look like i'm tackling more than an average joe can fix by himself?

Love those cars!.....You have to think hard about your ultimate plans for the car.....a driver? custom show car? chalkmark restoration? pro touring? drag racer?......when you answer that question the rest gets a lot easier.

i'd like to get/build a nice driver, within a working man's budget, but that's getting harder and harder to do!!

the car actually looks pretty good to me....aside from the issues you stated earlier the floors look good, dont know how the trunk pan is but it doesnt look too bad....if you were to disassemble the car yourself and get it blasted you can detail the trunk area, engine bay, underside of the floors & rearend, assemble and detail the interior etc....just because your uncomfortable doing finish bodywork doesnt mean you shouldnt do the car....LOTS of guys send a car out for paint and engine work.....Im assuming you have a garage or something to do the work in?

no real garage to store and do the work in. Most of my truck was done in the driveway on sunny or non raining days
thinking on asking the guy who owns it, maybe to do some bodywork and get the interior back together. Would be more feasible for me to put in a motor and have a driver then work on fine tuning and making it beautiful

That seems high, but I have not been following those cars so I am not a good indicator of value. But, I can tell you if that work makes you feel uncomfortable then I would spend more money on a car that is more solid.

About 5 years ago, 5k would be a good price. Now I would think $3-3500 would be more inline. I would really look into what parts come with the car. Old interior parts end up being parts that need replaced and your looking at pretty much just a bare shell. I think for 5k you can get a much cleaner car and if you don't have to have a road runner, a Satellite is fine with you, then you can really get more car for your money.

I'm working on a '69 Sport Satellite right now. It was in better shape than the one you are looking at when I started, and I've spent 5-6k on replacement sheetmetal alone. It adds up very quick!

Honestly that car looks REALLY rough. I see lots of rust in some very strange
places.

I think you could find alot better example for 5k.

One thing I've learned the hard way is that it's always cheaper in the long run to spend more $$$ on something with less rust. The car you are looking at will have you hating life in a hurry!

Does that price include all of the Air Grabber stuff? Was this car a factory 383 4 speed? I only ask because the hood is red and the rest of the car seems to have originaly been green. Thats alot of money for something that beat up in my opinion.

found my dad's original car that he bought brand new . it's a 70 plymouth satellite. spoke with the guy who owns it, and he is interested in selling it. Going to go and see it in the next few weeks, once the snow slows down.
