6-71 blower...?

Ok guys... I've looked and can't find what I need. Has anyone successfully squeezed a 6-71 blower and carbs completely under the hood of a 60-66 without hacking a hole? I measured it up and it looks like there's enough room... But..it's going to be very close...? Also... Is there interference with the firewall? I came across a very good deal, But don't want to hack a hole in my month-old paint.

I would doubt that you'll be able to squeeze it all underneath the hood. Those blowers add at least 8"-10" to the top of the block, not including your carb/s or breather assembly.

It measured 14" from from oil seal flange to top of carb. It will be close, but looks like maybe...? I was hoping someone had a pic of one to feed the fire....

If yer gonna do a blower, you need to look at some of the more modern stuff if you want to keep it under the hood.

Okay it wasn't about blowers, it was about tunnel rams. Here's the thread. It might still provide some valuable information about clearances if you can compare blower to TR dimensions:

You're saying 14" to the top of the carb... what about air cleaners? Unless I was drag racing only, I would not want to run without cleaners. Likely won't fit under the hood.

I know the "small" blowers (like the 142, 172 ones) will fit but a 6-71 is just a honkin' huge blower.

Woogeroo: that was the initial idea, but I stumbled across a crazy deal on the 6-71 full setup. I may go to the 177 with Holley injection instead

Chevy mike: looks like the clearance to the top of the hood *may* allow for a home-build sidewinder type filter setup. Gotta clean the air... Blowers don't like that dirt.

Given that you are so close... Could you drop the engine down an inch by either fabricating new mounts or sectioning the crossmember? Then run a K&N low profile cleaner on the carb(s)...

I thought about that.. but I've got a custom stainless crossmember under my T5. Plus it's a pretty low static drop (see pic). I think I'm going to scrap the idea

Are you looking for the blower HP or just the look? Have your thought about using a Pro Charger? That will definatly hide under the hood and spank anything around town.

I'm looking for a bit of a hp bump, and the look. If I did anything besides a roots-type it would probably be turbos honestly.
