Re: Where to find good fitting STOCK dipstick tube
Probably a good idea, My problem is the tube is sloppy loose in the block and will probably leak oil.

Re: Where to find good fitting STOCK dipstick tube
Classic Industries has them for about 20 bucks. Caution, the dip sticks come in different lengths as do the the tubes. You need to get a matched set, short or long, in order to have the dip stick read the correct oil level. If you know for sure what year dip stick you have it's easy, just order the corresponding year tube. Just for reference, my dip stick is 21 inches. The tube is 9.25 from the end to the block.

Re: Where to find good fitting STOCK dipstick tube
The interface between the tube and the block is the same regardless of year. The only difference is the length of the stick and tube. You need to make sure the stick and tube are from the same range of years (see on-line catalogs for year ranges) for accurate oil level readings.

Re: Where to find good fitting STOCK dipstick tube
Bought mine from the stealership. I bought it for an '84 Chevy C10 w/350. Fit's nice 'n tight. No oil leaks. IIRC it was about $35. Not cheap, but worth it for the fit compared to aftermarket junk. If you get the wrong length, just change the oil, fill her up with 5 qts, and make a new 'full' mark. That's what I'd do. Course I'm a redneck and there ain't gonna be another owner 'till I'm dead. And I'll probably have roached my engine by then.

Here it is, it wasn't like the crappy aftermarket that you usually find.

Re: Where to find good fitting STOCK dipstick tube
Unfortunately, no pics. But they sold me the dipstick and tube separately. Mine's passenger side though. So, I guess an '84 won't work. Don't know what year they went to pass. side. You might try a junkyard though.

Re: Where to find good fitting STOCK dipstick tube
Block does not matter, the important part is getting the correct length stick and upper tube. I'm using GM Dip stick # 3951576 (21 3/4") and dip stick tube 3876870 (9"), along with lower tube # 3951600 (6 7/8") on three vehicles right now. My 72 C10, 75 vette, and 65 vette and all fit great. These parts will work with any GM small block. There are other part numbers with different lengths, however these are the ones that work for me. You can get these from your dealer for less than $50. I'm finding the GM parts guys are getting like the DIY store numbskull's. If it's not on the screen, they don't anything about it.
