Removed heater box question.

Must be forgetting something but not seeing how to get the heater core out. I removed the 2 bolts that are on top of the cover holding the heater core in, removed the 5 visible bolts besides those first 2. Also pulled out the hinge pin that positions the door.

what else? everything thats on top of the heater core still feels secured pretty good...

Re: Removed heater box question.

I removed the hinge pin that is connected to the vent but haven't removed the hinge pin that holds the flap door on that has rubber around the sealing area...I assume that pin needs to be taken out too but it won't slid out due to it not wanting to slide on the rubber.

how do you get that removed without breaking something

Re: Removed heater box question.

Did you disconnect the vacumn pod rod? It's behind the flat cover and you have to kinda pry the cover out to get at it. If I remember it 7 or 8 mil. I did not have to remove the door with the rubber. Did you get the 2 corner screws hidden behind the foam strip? Also the core hold down has to come off. I'm going on memory and sometimes thats foggy...

Re: Removed heater box question.

I am not finding the hidden ones under the foam I can see under most of the foam due to the glue coming off and run my finger down it and don't feel anything.

not sure on the hidden one you have to pry the cover back to see either. what year was yours?

Re: Removed heater box question.

Heater box was 84 with a/c If you have it out and are looking at the heater core end there are 2 visible screws on left upper and lower corners. There are also 2 on right upper and lower but behind the foam strip. The "pod" rod is on the inside behind the flat cover that is right of the heater core. If you get the screws out and open it up slightly you can see a flat shaped rod that actuates by vacumn. I can't remember but this could run the rubber sealed door. This was again on an 84 box.
You can out smart this, I did. Good luck!
