Hello to all, I just joined the board. I recently purchased a unmolested 1972 shortbed 6cy 3 on the tree. I want to convert it to 350/350. Any suggestions on locating the necerssary parts, I need motor mounts, driveshaft, cross member etc. Im trying to post pics

Re: 1972 c-10
Welcome to the board! You will find everything you need in the parts for sale section.
I'm sure there are also some threads about the swap as well. The grey search box at the top of this page is the place to start. If it's a nice unmolested truck you might consider leaving it the way it is. Once you remove that 6/3 it is no longer unmolested and those are getting harder to find every day. Looking forward to pix!!!

Re: 1972 c-10
Welcome from Texas!
Nice starting point! you will need another radiator also, you may want to add p/s while you are in there too. The parts board will be your friend for used stuff. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/forumdisplay.php?f=8 Start gathering the parts, when you think you have everything, have 300-400 bucks sitting around for the stuff you forgot...haha Do you have a Napa or O'Rilieys close by? I am talking hoses, clamps, belts just small stuff

Re: 1972 c-10
Im still trying to decide whether I should street rod it or keep it original. I got the 6 running great. Just pulled the column and gonna try and figure out why it wont shift. All it has is 2nd and 3rd. Might clean it up, new rubber and sell it then buy one already V-8 converted. I have a 327/350 ready to roll. Does anyone know if the driveshaft will work from the 6/3?

Re: 1972 c-10
You may have wasted some time pulling the column. The shift problems are usually in the lube in the column. It usually just needs cleaning and relubed then maybe adjusted. There is a good write up on it but I didn't find it in a quick search. With new bushings,a proper clean and lube and the right adjustment 3 ott are just plain keewwwllllll.Besides that most folks can't drive them.

Re: 1972 c-10
My drive shaft worked when i converted I think it needs to measure 59 inches or so if I remember right...I like the looks of your truck I would convert it and drop it and leave it like it is has the shop truck/patina look which I really dig...oh yeah welcome to the board...like the ride

Re: 1972 c-10
X3 - love the fact it has the original drive train. There are tons of converted trucks out there for sale, or stock V8 trucks - someone would love to have that little six the way it is.

Re: 1972 c-10
Thanks for all the advice. Can someone post a link for column rebuild or repair? I searched but cannot find it. I'm anxious to start driving my new toy. Trucks been sitting since 1995. New gas, points, rotor, plugs and wires and she runs awesome. Now I need to get the 3 on the tree right!
