Has anyone built a tailgate extender?
Has anyone fabricated a tailgate extender or found one to fit a squarebody? Having a shortbed is awesome, but sometimes being short has its badside
It's almost motocross season here. Now that I have two bikes, when I transport them to the track I can't close the tailgate. It's annoying because then I have to bungee tie and strap down my equipment inside the bed. I was thinking about making something out of wood or even PVC piping. I guess I would have to add some type of brackets to stay stationary in the bed for the extender to slide in and out of. Any ideas?

I tied the gate to the foot peg. Gate was mostly up every thing stayed put.

Re: Has anyone built a tailgate extender?
Ever look at those "bed extender" that Nissan Titans come with as an option?

Re: Has anyone built a tailgate extender?
Yes, those are what I originally looked at but they don't make any specific to a 73-87. They are pretty pricey too. If they made one specific I would consider but I'm not spending that kind of money to have to modify it anyway.

Re: Has anyone built a tailgate extender?
Well some square tubing and a welder and you shouldn't have an issue. Make it to were it rotates on two pivot points on the square posts so you can rotate it from in the bed over and out to the tail gate. That way it don't have to be round tube or fancy

Re: Has anyone built a tailgate extender?
I don't think pvc would be to lite of thing to use & wood would work fine..but if you going to use it to help secure tha bike..i'd use 1x1 square tube..if you can weld..you can bolt tha corners to gather with L brackets...maybe 2 rows..with some flat stock to act as diagonal's..

Re: Has anyone built a tailgate extender?
Take a tape measure to walmart and start measuring truck beds to see if one has the same width as your truck.. then see if you can find one on CL... Stay away from PVC. Too flimsy and UV from the sun will ruin it...

Re: Has anyone built a tailgate extender?
The 1x1 square tube does sound like a better material to use...
