Put the 71 gmc to work the last two days

Since the weather has been amazing here the last few days at 78 degrees and nice breeze i decided to cut down a few trees in the yard and trim up some others. All in all took 8 loads to my brush pile ranging from limbs to logs to leaves. The truck has had a camper shell on it since new so it was good to see it do some work for the first time in a long time. Here's a few pics for ya guys.

I can't believe your putting that truck to work.....without appropriate hubcaps on it.

Re: Put the 71 gmc to work the last two days

I really think the load capacity of 1/2 ton trucks is overstated from the factory, and 3/4 ton trucks are underrated. You put 1000 lbs in a 1/2 ton truck and the bed is dragging on the ground. You can put a bunch of weight in a 3/4 ton truck and it doesn't seem to sag a bit.

Truck looks good working!

Re: Put the 71 gmc to work the last two days

Hells ya

I had mine working the last couple weeks. Got rid of a yard full of brush, rented a 6" chipper and filled the 8' bed twice, got a nice big pile of mulch now, and took a trip to the dump with another load of yard debris yesterday, had that 3/4 ton squatting a bit. I wanted to get the weight of the truck, and my load, but with yard debris, they don't give you a ticket afterwards, just when you pull up, it said 6080lbs. No idea how much I was hauling. What's the weight of a 68 3/4 ton?

Tough to say cause your truck has a v6 that weighs more than a v8 BUT my 71 c20 with a 350 has dual wheels on it and a dump body that I figured from my dump scale weight slips, weighs 1100lbs more than my fleet side bed did. that truck weighs 6100 empty, well maybe 5900 since they weigh it with me in it. So I figure your truck should weigh about 4800 allowing that my 2 extra wheels add up to the difference of your v6 over my v8. Hows my math? Blacksheep 454 That a nice looking truck. yea thats barely work for that puppy at all,you could throw 2 tons on that truck easy.

Took another trip today, weighed in at 6140, with less gas, and my step son instead of my buddy. Got the number this time 4940 was the scale weight empty. I'd say me and him are about 300lbs total.
