installin a starter button..need some help.

I have a starter button that im tryin to hook up in my 74. I bought it off ebay. I just got done puttin the button itself in the dash so now I just have to wire it up. There is a wire that hooks up from the button to a relay box. Then I have to hook up some wires to the box to the ignition. There are 3 wires...black is for ground...then theres a blue and a red wire that supposedly goes to terminal 15 behind the ignition switch and im supposed to run another wire to terminal 50. Those are according to the instructions. So anyone has an idea where these terminals are on our trucks. Any help is appreciated. thanks.

I did it on my f***. I'd puledl them off the ign switch mounted under the column behind the dash. find a good thick power wire and the starter wire which you may need a diagram for.

ok so i figured out where these wires are supposed to go. there are actually 4 wires...one goes to ground, a red wire goes to an accessory, one blue wire goes to the ignition wire and the other blue wire goes to a constant power source. any one know where the ignition wire is on our trucks?

In the steering column running up to the ignition switch. Just splice into those wires. Ignition wire will be powered while cranking( the starter). Acc wire will not have power while cranking. If you cant figure it out, take your truck to a good car audio shop and get them to install it. Wouldnt take more than a half hour for them to install the button and wire it up.

I thought all you would have to do is cut the wire that goes to the key that gets power when you crank, and run that one wire through the button. So if I read this right, there are more wires involved

button only engages the starter
truck needs to have power after you release it

I used the auto lock kit.. with RF proximity.. thing is cool if your truck is running WELL..

Not cool part is I forgot about the Rf chip and left in it side and spent 20 minutes trying to figure out why my truck wouldn't start... lol...

Re: installin a starter button..need some help.

push buttons starts are sweet, read about some saying put one inline with the ignition wire from the key. its actually a good idea from a security stand point. i did this on my dads 70 cutlass. we put a momentary pushbutton in the glove box. so you turn the key all the way to start and nothing happens until u push the push button. this way if someone is gonna try and steal your car via collum smash or screwdriver nothing will happen. and usually they dont want to hang around long enough to figure out y. you can put a push button anywhere really, think im gonna put mine on my truck under the dash or something in that area.

if you want to do this to your truck its very simple, by yourself a simple momentary push button that will handle at least an amp or 2. locate the wire that comes off your ignition key. cut the wire, best to do it under the dash, connect one end to a lead on the pushbutton and the other lead to the other wire on the pushbutton, direction doesnt matter. and voila simply pushbutton start theft feature

Re: installin a starter button..need some help.

I am planning to do this on my 79. I am going to retrofit a push button into my cigarette lighter, it is going to be killer

I think i am going to go this to my truck. I am going to hide the started button somewhere on the dash. I want it to be more of a security feature. Put the key in and turn it to ON, then press the hidden button. Pretty cool.
