Re: 1963 chevy 1/2 ton
Ive never heard of it being done, not to say that it cant. The easier solution is to dump the mechanical clutch and go to a hydraulic clutch. The 60-62's ran hydraulic and the parts are readily available. CaptainFab is a board member here...he can help with it also.

Re: 1963 chevy 1/2 ton
This all depends on what headers you are running. If you are using either Hedman #69090, or Hooker #2452's, then very little to no modification to the clutch bellcrank is necessary. If you are using some other headers, I don't know just what you will have to do to make the mechanical clutch work.

Re: 1963 chevy 1/2 ton
hi and a BIG THANK YOU !!! i was hoping to come up with some kind of part number from someone !!! the headers i have are off a 55 chevy big block application,i thought foolishly that since the frames are similar they would work, but one question remains, can you retain the stock motor mount perches ??? the headers were hitting that on the drivers side, thanks

Go with some fenderwell headers and then you can set the clutch linkage up however you want. I bet 55-57 chevy big block fenderwell headers would work. It would be worth checking out if you are dead set on a big block.

Re: 1963 chevy 1/2 ton
Your original post did not say you were installing a big block. I do not know of any headers that will work in these trucks with a big block, with the engine in the original location and a manual trans. It is possible that a set of big block block huggers would work, but I don't know if they will clear the motor mounts and crossmember. Another option would be to change your motor mount brackets to a set of '68-'71 big block brackets and mounts. Then you should be able to use a set of '68-'71 big block headers. But you will likely have to still modify your original clutch linkage, or use some of the '68-'71 pieces.
If I end up putting a 454 in my '66 C30 with a SM465, I will be converting to a hydraulic clutch. That will be much easier. Of course if you were running a auto trans, there is no problem at all with headers, just a little trimming of the top flange of the frame. Quote:
