How to make a rug 101
My brother asked me to make him a rug for his apartment. Its sort of a throw rug. I used to do a lot of border work streched over pad in K.C. back in the late 80s early 90s. My bro saw me do some of this kinda of work in the past. He is living in K.C. now (an hour drive from where I live) and going to school at the age of 51.He has some physical limitations...he walks to school..about 2 miles from his apt. He has a rough life and is working to improve it..I am very proud of him.
Its been a while since I have done anything like this. |

Re: How to make a rug 101
I bet Lockdoc will get the rake and the seam iron sitting on top of the carpet pictures. I was certified with a Cool Glide in 2007, just too cheap to pony up the duckies.

Hey Scott, I can relate to those pics. Looks great! I put a Green strip around where the dining room table sits when Pat and I built our house. I just wanted an accent strip to break it up some. The pictures aren't real great but they're all I have on the Comp. LockDoc

Re: How to make a rug 101
So I see the pics but I dont understand how you make it all one piece ... some sort of stick pad underneath?
You do good work, next time you are out here in Washington you should stop by. That would look kinda cool in our living room =)

Re: How to make a rug 101
Thanks for the kind words everyone.
Hey Mark,in this particular application I used a fiberglass tape that has glue on the top side that heats up with a seam iron. If done properly the seam is supposed to be stronger than the carpet.. Sorta like a weld. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: How to make a rug 101
Leon, I had a feeling you had done some border work..amigo.
Seaming the carpet is easy..stretching it in while keeping everything even takes time. Nice work! Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: How to make a rug 101
That is awesome! It looks like you can make some really cool rugs from remnants and scraps. I would have never thought.
If I did that, I'd start with a square pattern and wind up with a parallelogram. Keeping it stretched tight while keeping your pattern square would be the toughest thing. The cool stuff guys do on this site never fails to amaze me.
