72 super on ebay
I can't seem to pick it apart much (not that I would) but I tend to look for something phony when a Super comes across the block that is reasonably priced. And this one is, and it seems legit. It's YE9 is worded as "Cheyenne Super Spor," I normally see it as "Cheyenne Super Equip", but seems consistency in SPID wording wasn't exactly Chevrolet's forte. If the SPID is legit, and it appears to be to me at least (can't tell if it has clear cover, but you can see where a repaint was done around it which lends to it's correctness) - I think this truck is a set of correct door panels and a tailgate handle cover away from being worth a good little bit more than they're asking. Some trim needs replacing (tailgate, for ex), but Hmmm, if I were looking for a long bed super, I'd look close at this one (to verify it, then to consider buying it). Unfortunately, I'm lookin for a shorty! Enjoy:

Re: 72 super on ebay
that's why I was saying it was a good sign that the repaint was clearly visible on the inside of the glove box, i.e. used the original glovebox. If I were to see it in person, and the text looked correct, I'd not doubt it's authenticity. I have yet to see a repro SPID with the correct font. (and this one's font looks correct to me) - but I'm no expert.
Yes, a thousand ways to skin the cat - but the vinyl on the seats are appropriately faded - it also does not have power brakes on the SPID or in the truck - that is an oddball combo that most wouldn't take the time to fake (i.e. most 72s had power brakes) - so this SPID matches pretty much exactly, including the things most of us wouldn't have done (i.e. no p brks) |

Re: 72 super on ebay
Very nice truck, and of course I like the colours.
BUT...no power brakes and I don't like the underhood black spray paint routine...makes me nervous...and no info on what the motor is out of, etc. STILL....its certainly worth a few shekels but I wouldn't go over 8K on it. All in all tho'...nice example!! My two bits. Coley

Re: 72 super on ebay
If it's a real super - i don't believe you'd ever see one for $8K again in this condition. I believe it's value hinges on its authrnticity - and, again, I don't know if it's real or not - but I love lookin at these things and guessing. And I can't find anything that would lead one to believe it's not real. Black spray paint is easily fixable. Even if eng is not original, and it appears to be original to me, just poorly painted, it would be a giveaway at $8K i think. But then again, he's asking 13... In my book, if it's real, it's easily worth what he's asking.
BUt I understand where you're comin from Coley - for something so original, I prefer dirt and even rust under the hood to black spray bomb work. |

Re: 72 super on ebay
Thanks, good to know! I guess if it were exact, I'd never even realize I was looking at a repro... (that'd be the point) Guess it makes sense that I'd only notice the ones that aren't the correct font - erego - would nevrer know if looking at a "good" repro...
