V30 vs K30. What's the diff?

What is the difference between the two? Just trying to get educated a bit here.

Not really. The carb was still available (but increasing not popular) till the 89 model year. All of the carb trucks in 88-89 were 454's, Vin "W". In 87 carb was still avaible in the 350's, Vin "M" also.

My bad on that one. For some reason i was thinking that the '87 carb trucks were still c/k designation and the '87 fuelie trucks were r/v.

There were no C/K trucks built in 1987 just R/V. It's been common to continue to refer to the square body trucks of 1987 as C/K since it was easier. As others posted it was to create a break before the new platform of C/K trucks were introduced.
They still made a 2 door regular cab square body pickup in 1988 but only with optioned 4x4 and dual rear wheels,(V30).

No, in 87 gm changed the code of the 73-87's to r/v because they didn't want it confused with the new style pick up coming in 88 which took the c/k banner. So, 87-91 square body trucks are r/v while 88-98 trucks took over the c/k.

87 fullsize reg cab trucks and 87-91 crew cabs were R/V series because they were still the old style and didn't want to confuse everybody with the new C/K 88-98 fullsize trucks evidently they still did..

so for 88-91 a C or K1500 was your 88-98 style half ton while the R or V was the old style crews.

correct me if if im wrong... people always give me a puzzled look when the ask about my truck.

Ford and gm have been known to reuse the old body style after a new one came out.

The R/V trucks were the square body style; the new trucks can be referred to as the GMT400.

Re: V30 vs K30. What's the diff?

The new '88 body style actually came out way early during '87,not in the fall as usual,so they started the '87 model year with the new R/V model designate in preparation for the new style coming out. Also,GM knew the it would be a few years with both or mixed body styles in the 30 series. In '88 the square body was still available as a 2 or 4wd regular cab DRW pickup. In '89 all 30 series cab & chassis trucks were available in square body. In 90/91 it was down to only Crewcabs,Suburbans, and Blazer/Jimmys only available as square bodies, the last of the R/Vs.

The only square body 2 door regular cab pickup available in 1988 was a V30. The truck had to have 4x4 and R05 dual rear wheels. They could not be ordered as a 2 wheel drive.

In Dec of 87, My dad bought a NB 88 that was built in Oct of 87. its production number was 937. BTW, It spent its first 30k in the shop (motor, trans, transfer, front diff, ABS and misc), but till I sold it with 260K it never seen the shop again.

This V30 was built in May 1988 at the Janesville Plant. Might have been one of the last square body 2 door regular pickups made.
