In dash speaker installation on '66 GMC

I'm looking to mount a center speaker under the dash in the factor location. My main question is whether i need some sort of speaker mounting bracket since my truck orginally did not come with a radio.

I have purchased a reproduction radio and reproduction speaker that supposedly will fit in the factor mounting location, but I'm struggling to see how I attach the speaker.

Any help would be most appreciated!

I believe there are 4 holes in the dash, two on each side of the speaker hole. Two on the window side, two on the dash side.

I'm not sure about the length, diameter or thread of the bolts tho'.

Hey, yer in luck, I checked my notes and found this thread here... it's a start:

Here are a few pages from the 1960 Chevy Accessory Installation Manual that may prove helpful:

Thanks for these pictures, they are quite helpful. I don't think i have that speaker mounting bracket (nor the radio tab, but that can be easily made). I wonder if this is not in my truck since it was radio delete model to begin with??

Any one know of sources for the speaker bracket. I've searched several of the popular online parts suppliers but to no avail.

Thanks again for the help

You will probably have to buy one used.

Happy searching!

In my 65, I mounted 2 4" speakers to a board then mounted that.
