402/454 rebuild?

Ive a big block, pretty sure is a 454 but dont know anymore

anyway I recent bought a house and finally picked it up from storage. Now its smoking (whitish grayish) all the time. It smells like its running really rich but since its not black am assuming its the rings. Debating on rebuilding it or swapping for something new completely. Im leaning toward having it rebuilt but not sure of any good kits that are out there for a top end or if I just have to piece it all together.

Im in Riverbank (outside Modesto, Ca) so if anyone knows a good place around here or has any good advise Id be very appreciative!!!

i would rebuild an engine before i bought one. The parts you need are dependant on what you will do with the truck and how you drive, White smoke may be a coolant problem. check head gaskets and cooling system before teardown.

I think it depends on how you plan to use the truck. A stock build is plenty cheap. Beyond stock it gets pricey. I had my 454 rebuilt stock for less than $1k. I very happy with the results.

Im not going too far over stock, just a simple street cruiser. AusTx68; would coolant prob make it smell gassy though??

Temp is fine as far as the gauge is concerned...

Coolant does stink but it doesn't smell gassy. Sounds like you are running rich. Temp is fine and white/greyish smoke. I dunno. Was it running fine when you parked it? Still have old gas in it? Pull the plugs and see what they tell ya.
