2003 Silverado Fuel Pump

Over the past 6 months, maybe 4 times, my truck hasn't started. On the first key turn, Engine turns over but doesn't fire. Second key turn, sometimes it starts. If not on second, then third time it starts. Worried that the fuel pump needs replacement (170,000 miles). Thinking its gonna need it soon anyway so why not replace it before I get stranded somewhere.

Whats the easiest way to do it? Drop the tank or just take the bed off? Is the pump and sender in the tank? Should I replace sender also or just replace the pump?

You'll probably get alot of different answers on this one, but I found it easier to unbolt my bed....I had almost a full tank of gas when my fuel pump went out. I contemplated dropping the tank, but I still wouldn't of had nearly enough room to work "comfortably"....So, I took out all of my bed bolts..unhooked my tail-light wires from the rear harness..unbolted my filler neck, and tilted the bed to one side...I actually had other 2x4's supporting the bed, so it was safer than it looks.....Worked like a charm, and gave me plenty of room to remove and replace my fuel pump....

the pump is only sold as a sender unit on these trucks do your self a favor and buy a gm pump (dephi, or ac delco) the after market are junk on these trucks i work on alot of these trucks at work and most after market pumps i pull out at 15k miles after install

Totally agree....I did alot of searching around and found another brand new AC DELCO pump for $180 shipped IIRC.....
