Will I need a proportioning valve

I am building a 1966 short wide that my Grandpa bought basicly new and had a question. The truck was special ordered with power brakes and I am converting it to disc front and rear hopefully this weekend and was wondering if I am going to need a proportioning valve as well

yes, you will. if you were just converting to a dual res master cyl (for safety) with drums all around still, then no, BUT since you're planning a disk/drum, you'll need to balance - and if disk/disk, it would be appropriate for adjustability. Bottom line - if any disks, use a prop valve. If all drums (and using an "all-drum" master cylinder - like an original 67 drum/drum mc, for example), the proportioning is built into the master cylinder itself by the phasing of when the circuits are pressurized - and this requires that the correct line be hooked up to the correct ports on the mc (i.e. front brakes brake line to the rear port and rear brakes brake line to the front port (counter-intuitive)).

i used an adjustible prop valve plumbed into the rear line and used the 72-76 corvette dual master and it cost $42.00 compared to $90.00 for the combo valve and its way more adjustible to get the perfect balance
