I think I found a Chalet...
I've always been interested in the elusive "Chalet", I know we've got some members here that like to track them. I think I may have found one locally, in almost perfect condition with 48,000 miles. Is $6500 a fair price for this truck? The interior of the camper looks to be in perfect shape.

Re: I think I found a Chalet...
Any rust in the body? The inside looks 3 times better than the one we had here and they wanted $6k for it, so I dont think they are out of line. Are they willing to budge on the price? Throw an offer and see if it sticks. P.S. cash in hand will do wonders for dropping the price.

Re: I think I found a Chalet...
Almost like new. Obviously a garaged/summer only vehicle.

Re: I think I found a Chalet...
I don't know, $6500 is a lot for a vehicle I'd only use a couple times a year. Too bad the camper doesn't come off easily. I hate to see it pass by though. You think it's worth more than that?

Re: I think I found a Chalet...
Not even close. This one is serial #0258, repainted quite some time ago with rebuilt engine, replacement non-original fridge, non-original awning and other stuff that otherwise detracts from a higher 'collector value. Same one in this older thread. Its mileage is actually 104k+
Always glad for guys keeping an eye out for these, I do miss other ads, like the one in western Wyoming that I was told about earlier today, serial #1004: http://www.ksl.com/?nid=678&ad=20195929&cat=150&lpid= and I did manage to find another one today in Alabama where the seller only calls the thing a 'camper special'. I'll try getting a serial # for it tomorrow: http://dothan.craigslist.org/ctd/2994722066.html

Personally I would upgrade a few things, so being totally original isn't a huge factor for me. It's just cool. Looks to be in better condition than my DD, though it can be hard to tell in the pics... I've been wanting a camper for my truck anyway...this is a hard choice.

Re: I think I found a Chalet...
Because I've tracked just short of 300 of these and this is one of them, plus as I noted in the prior thread here about it, I have the printout of our Yahoo forum member's Craigslist ad http://i54.tinypic.com/s1s3u9.jpg when he sold it to somebody who ended up (I assume) consigning it at Manor Highway Rv Sales & Consignment. Those folks re-used the words out of it word-for-word in their first eBay listing, which misrepresented how long they had owned it. Now the seller appears to be "NW RV Country" which may be either related to the Manor Highway place or not. The mileage figure they show now is either a monster typo, or something else is going on...
Since I started tracking all these in 2005, I still have the New Jersey eBay printout for it from 10/26/05 when it had 102k miles. When it reappeared in a Nevada eBay listing in April '06, its mileage was 107k, and all of these have the same VIN if anyone wants more evidence. On top of all that, the private WA state owner of it corresponded with me on various occasions, he is the one who made the metal bezel around the outside furnace grate.

Re: I think I found a Chalet...
If it is in the great condition you say it is I say its worth it. The one that sold here last summer at an auction only went for $3-$3500. I didn't make it but the guy that bought it cleaned it up and was asking $6k for it and it had rusty rockers, a few roof leaks and it was obvious that the camper was used quite a bit. If I was at the auction I would have atleast bid it to $3k. The one you have here is in a lot nicer condition so I can see his asking price. I know its a decent chunk of change, but it is a awesome piece of rareness. If it was here I think I would have to offer 6 and hope to get it, and then spend the summer camping!

That thing has been on Craigslist for over 6 months. It looks really nice. I like it.
