Does dash come out of cab? 72

On a 72 does the dash come out of the cab or is it all one piece with the cab? The PO cut a big old sloppy hole to put his aftermarket tape player in and you can see a gap almost all the way around it so I was gonna try to replace the dash an try to put back in an original looking radio. Or if this is not an option does anyone sell sheet metal that can be welded in for the radio section to go back to the one small hole with the two round holes?

It can come out with a lot of effort. Bolts on either side and tons of spot welds that have to be drilled out from around the bottom of front windshield - which has to be removed.

Another possibility that some guys have talked about is cutting it with a cutoff tool under the front pad area and then rewelding. Either way, it does take some work.

Here is the short version:
take off the dash pad, guage cluster and glove box door. Take your cutoff wheel and cut along the slots where the dash pad was, one cut under the cluster hole and one under the glove box door. Remove and throw it in the scrape pile. Post a WTB dash center section add in the parts forum. When you get your new piece weld it in and re-assemble.

Randy (Teeitup) has lots of the dash centers cut out. You should get ahold of him and grab one up!
