Re: 56? fire truck

That would be a 56 chevy Low cab forward and a pretty neat one. It is probably a 3 ton or bigger. I like the front fender skirts. I have never seen any front fender skirts before. They were probably made by the upfitter company. Where did you find the picture? I would be intersted in finding more about this truck and see if it is for sale.

Great pic, it wasn't but about 10 years ago when we finally retired our 1955 International R-190 fire truck.

Re: 56? fire truck

I had that truck bought at one time and they backed out on me. It sets about 40 miles from me. It came stock and still has a nail head buick in it, I had to do alot of research to believe it myself, but it did come that way. It also is 4-wheel drive has a coleman front end under it. They still have my number and are supposed to call when they talk some sense into their one brother that stopped the sell. I believe it has 1600 or so miles on it. and it was 2k for it.

Re: 56? fire truck

I figured it was 4x4 based on the height of the thing and the fender skirts....I would love to have it.

Re: 56? fire truck

There is a pretty nice looking mid 50's Mac fire truck here in town that I would love to get my hands on and restore. My only problem is that along with not enough cash I don't have a batch of grand kids to haul around in one or in parades.

Re: 56? fire truck

Well if I get it, I just want the cab. Restored fire truck might be cool to drive once a year but not worth the time or money. You can buy a restored one for pennys on the dollar of the cost to biuld one anyway. let the flaming begin..lol I want to put it on a 12valve cummins 4x4 flat bed one ton.

Why not just look for a regular LCF truck. That cab looks to be grafted into the body. it would be a lot of work to put the back of the cab back together. I'm not flaming just sugesting you might find a better option. I would want to truck because it is 4x4 and would turn the fire truck back into some kind of hauler wile retaining the original sides.

I am looking at doing the same thing but would rather keep it in the GM family with Duramax. I know a Cummins guy will disagree but it would be plenty OK for a street rod. I got inspired when I saw this pic on the net. I just have to finish my current 56 first...
