Hogging the parts boards
Recently there have been several complaints of folks "hogging" the parts boards. This is just a gentle reminder to be considerate of others. Excessive use of TTT causes a majority of these complaints. Folks have also been reporting major individual listings.
If you can post several items in one thread, please do so. If it is to confusing to you to do so, then by all means break it up a bit. However, listing every nut and bolt separate probably is a bit much If you have items for sale, and they fall off the first page.. give it a few. Most folks do look beyond page one. If you don't get the response you anticipated try to ttt it. If you have to ttt it several times, then you may want to review the ad and see why it may not be getting the attention it deserves. Feel free to report your old ad, ask the staff to close it and start a new one. This is not pointed at anyone, and is just a reminder to please be considerate of the other sellers. Thanks |

Hey y'all. I feel I am guilty of this as well and will make an effort to condense my listings. Sorry, did not mean any harm and we will work on it. thanks, Fred

Re: Hogging the parts boards
Other sites I've seen have a "3-day bump rule". Might not be a bad idea here.

Re: Hogging the parts boards
I also think it's a good practice to have a three day bump rule.

Re: Hogging the parts boards
If there are no rules to follow, the person can say..."I've done nothing wrong, I'm allowed to post up as often as I like. I'm a member, and there is no post count"
You call it hogging, i think he is just trying to sell his part, so he has money to buy other parts off of the classified Just life in the big city

Re: Hogging the parts boards
actually, if you go back and read the threads on this subject in the site feedback area, I replied very similar to yours long ago. I use to feel that way also. The replies and discussions made me realize that sometimes it becomes an issue. There have been many reported posts, PMs and discussions on the subject before. So it is not a new issue, just one that gets worse and worse

Re: Hogging the parts boards
I generally will drop my price if I see that I have something that is not getting any action or is not selling. My problem is that I was approached a year ago via pm about upgrading to High octane and see board members that are still blue selling three times as much stuff then I do. Where is the patrolling anymore.

Re: Hogging the parts boards
Then no one would read it. Our research shows that stickies are ignored by 80% of forum readers.

We have decided to install a program to help us keep track of that more. To add more staff may help, but hasn't far. We have 10 moderators on one classified section alone. They do all that they can, but in the end it frustrates them as much as it does you. Hopefully the changes going into place backend, will help produce some good results. Until then we ask that you ALL help by reporting posts and users that you see consistently selling more than leftover parts, ttt'ing stuff non stop and simply hogging the parts boards. That alone helps us a ton. There is no way possible that I can read every thread and know what every member is doing.. nor can any one member of the staff |

Re: Hogging the parts boards
I do understand as a staff member that it has to be hard to monitor around 100k people. When I joined there were only around 7k people on the board so I can understand that it can be hard to try and patrol. Maybe adding a few staff members to the 67-72 parts board would be a good idea since it is probably the #1 trafficked portion of this site.

Re: Hogging the parts boards
Actually we do have some of our Staff Members that patrol the classifieds frequently. We rely on them to report problems as they arise. With the volume of posts that the Classified Forums receive they move at a very rapid pace. It would require a full time Staff Member to keep up with the posts and members in there.
We have had good results with members reporting High Octane candidates, but that also creates additional work for staff. This means we have to research the reported users posts to see if they fit the profile, and make a decision if they are truly at the High Octane or just a very active Premium Member. If its clear they fit the criteria for an upgrade, we send a PM. Most members (like you) agree, and are very obliging in allowing us to upgrade their subscription. Some members want to debate our decision and we have to correspond with them several times to ensure that we are not treating them unfairly and have reviewed their account adequately to make a decision. The primary part of this process is the easy part. Getting Staff and Members to report the potential High Octane member is pretty simple. We only allow the last stages of the process to be completed by an Admin. Unless its clear cut, this often involves the research and input of more than one Admin to make a final decision. As you can see, it requires a LOT of time to process, and no matter how many Staff Members we add, the final decision comes from an Admin. All that keeps us pretty busy, and takes away from our other duties here on the Forum.
