What is missing from this rear crossmember?

Can someone tell me what is missing from this rear crossmember. There are two bolts that are captive in the frame and it looks like there might have been something that goes around the drive shaft maybe. Pictures would be helpful. This is on my '69 C20 truck. Thanks for your help.

Interesting. Is that cross piece with the bolts riveted on? All I can say is that my 69 3/4 ton with coils in the rear doesn't have that piece and never did.

Here's the best picture I can find:

Re: What is missing from this rear crossmember?

Since the lower bracket is riveted, it's probably factory. The upper bracket is bolted so likely was added later. Maybe it originally had the U shaped bracket type center shaft support and was later modified to accept the hanging rubber donut type that is shown in your pic.

I found two pics of mine showing the same location (partially) on my 69 C20. The upper bracket is riveted and there is no lower bracket.

Thanks for the pictures. OK, now it makes more sense. You're right... the upper bracket is bolted while yours is riveted. So it seems that someone might have removed the U-shaped center shaft support and installed the hanging rubber style type. I am not familiar with either, but it seems to be what happened based on the fact that the top drive shaft support is bolted and not riveted. I don't know if one was better then the other, but when I found those bolts captive on the bracket it was apparent that something was missing and I was concerned.

Does anyone know the difference in the two styles of driveshaft supports? What years where they on? Is mine OK the way it is?

Probably. As I stated above, mine has always had the top mount carrier as you have installed. Mine's a 350. Does anyone know if the big block used the other style pictured above for your bracket?

The crossmember piece is riveted to the frame, and the bar going across the bottom of it is also riveted to it. Thats why the bolts are captive and cannot be removed. I'm not sure what bolted up to it.
