Screwed-Up Drip Rail job?
I am re-doing my drip rail now that I know what I am doing, and have good equipment. I did it previously, but it was beyond awful. So I cut out about a half inch of the frame and have been laying in new 18GA steel in place of the badly mangled original metal.
So far so good, but while cutting out the old I thought on the corners where the three pieces meet up it would be super easy to just grind out the third flap, that is in the middle, inside the cab hollows. I am down to finish grinding on about 90% of the weld surface, and a bit more welding to do on the door edges, and of course these two corners that I left due to the need to form the patches. So did I screw up by cutting the middle pieces back? Do I need to patch on an extension to bring it back out and weld it onto the outer piece that will fill the hole/shave the rail?? I suppose if it is a mistake better to find out now, than after paint was on and cab started to tear/separate.

I would try to do the best to recreate the original. I know all of that is structural reinforcement. I would patch an extension.

Kind of what I expected to hear. Worst case I cut the upper roof back just a bit more so I can get the mig tip down in there and pull out the middle piece and weld it to the the lower frame lip. Then weld the roof skin to the same joint making a T with the two welds/3 pieces.
