Re: stepside tailgates
The beds/tailgates changed on the '55 1st series to the design used through '87.
EDIT: The 54 and 55 1st were the same style truck.

Re: stepside tailgates
Actually 54-87 does take the same tailgate. The 47-53 is the shorter one.

Re: stepside tailgates
darn. I had a buyer who wanted a stepside tailgate for his 54 chevy and "truck shop" in orange said it is a different size than 55-87.

Re: stepside tailgates
I have a 55 1st series 5 window swb stepside, 55 2nd series big window swb stepside, loose 68 Chevy lwb stepside bed, loose 69 Chevy swb stepside bed, 71 GMC swb stepside and 72 Chevy swb step and the tailgates are all the same...
All of the original 54's I have seen use the same bed with the flat bedside tops as the 55 1st series. 47-53 had the angled beside tops and shorter tailgates. In other words, I can say for sure that 55 1st series-87 stepsides all used the same tailgate, 54 as wel if it in fact had the lfat bedside tops like a 55 1st series. |
