van swaybar?

I'm intrested in getting a swaybar From a 83' 1 ton g30 van.

Is there a difference in the bars from a truck to a van?

Is there a difference between the 1 ton, 3/4ton, or half ton bars?

would it be a good Idea to put this on my 67 swb 2wd 1/2ton stepper?

we put a sb on our 67 short fleet an it made a world of difference in the handleing and ride. but all I can remember is it came from a same vintage truck an dont really know what rating the truck had.

the stepper will have a complete 72 crossmember change over for the disc brakes and 5 lug and this is about the only other piece that I'm missing.
I can pick this one up pretty cheap with newer bushings allready on it and i wont even have to grind/pound rivits! its allready been taken out.

Re: van swaybar?

Don't know about the van, but I pulled a sway bar off a 75 heavy half, and bolted right up to my 71 halfton step..

Re: van swaybar?

I have 2 vans.A G-20 and a G-30(1 ton).
I removed the sway bar from the G-20 and tried it on my 68,C-10.It will not work!!!
The van bar is bent square at the turn, making it too wide for the pick-up wheels to turn, where the correct bar is bent at about 45 degrees.
Very frustrating with all the work involved!
I ended up putting a 73/87 swaybar on it.
The size bars installed on the 1/2,3/4,1 ton ratings depend on the total weight the truck is designed to carry,so pick the bar you want,as the same size is used on same weight range,ie-heavy half, light 3/4,etc.
My G-20 uses the same size(diameter) as my C-10.
Mike.

Re: van swaybar?

Thank you for the info, guess I wont be getting that sway bar then.

I was thinking the van and trucks were the same.

It seems that the 73-87 bars will fit an and a good thing there is plenty of them In the jy.

Re: van swaybar?

it is best to take a tapemeasure to it to see if it fits// a thicker diameter bar is stiffer and will give a more noticable effect in the performance

Re: van swaybar?

my neighbor down the street from me caught me under the front of his van this morning.
a lil' puzzled he quickly said "no the engine isnt for sale" lol
I chuckled an told him what I was looking at. and 100% chevy is right the van bars are bent at allmost a 90* on the ends. then I looked at the bar on our short fleet an confirmed they are differnt...shucks
