Lightbulb Steering slop. Want a fix?

Got tired of the rag joints making my manual steering feel sloppy. So instead of a complete metal disk in place of the rag joint or a spendy and time consuming borg warner u joint changeover i made some hammer on sleeves and they seem to work pretty dang good

You guys think you may want some?

Re: Steering slop. Want a fix?

Your way is the cheapest fix for sure but the Jeep intermediate shaft is really a cheap option as well for the later trucks

Re: Steering slop. Want a fix?

There were millions of Cherokees and I see the intermediate shafts on Ebay USED for right around $20-30. To be honest with you I have yet to install mine in my 77 as I have yet to come up with a nice 78 up tilt steering column but it really seems like the way to go. Like I said no where near as cheap as the sleeves but a nice simple upgrade.

Re: Steering slop. Want a fix?

Hmm well i will do a search and maybe ultimately upgrade to that. But these sleeves take like ten min for me to build and hammer on with a ball ping hammer and socket compared to a whole day for just one set of door locks and that's if I have the whole day haha.

Manual steering? I think I see lines. Did you disconnect it?

Re: Steering slop. Want a fix?

Yah pulled the belts I run it once a month and flush the fluid inside. I pulled it so I can get some road feel finally. Once you used to it it's only marginally tough in parking lots.

Re: Steering slop. Want a fix?

Then I would be killing power and straining the pump. These steering boxes are simply built to mushy. So I will either underdrive the pump or spend 400 on a agr 12:1 ratio box

Re: Steering slop. Want a fix?

Here is the fix I was talking about. I would be willing to try the sleeves though if I hadn't already bought the intermediate shaft http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...rokee+steering

Re: Steering slop. Want a fix?

Sometime I will try it and see how it compares to my fix. I just took it out today and it felt and drove like it should and turned when I told it. Helped the road feel for sure bit once I get a new steering box from agr and get rid of that box slop!
