Gas Tank filler mod...
Alright, I want to add a newer style gas tank filler/door to my truck, but I don't know what will work best. I am putting the tank in the box of my truck at the front, the truck is a stepside so I figured it shouldnt be too hard to find a filler/door that will work seeing as how it is flat where I want to mount it. Has anyone done this to their stepside truck, and what has worked... ?
Any help would be muchly appreciated.THANKS Lucky

Off the top of my head I think a door from something like my mom's astro van would work because they are flat.
Maybe we should take a trip out to Stank's pile of junked cars one day and see if there is anything that looks like it will work. Have you decided what you are doing for a gas thank yet?

Yeah, we are gonna get one built for us, and put it in the front of the box. I figure its not a big box to start off with, and I want to put a hard tonneau cover on anyways so, it can go in the box, no big deal. I looked at our blazer and it might work, but it will be a tight squeeze. I might header over to Campells and check some stuff out, hes got a wrecked blazer there, I need seatbelts too.

Lucky59,
I pulled this filler neck and remote door release from a local 'U-Pull-It' for $25; it was on an '89 Mazda 323. It went in easy, had just about the right curve for where I put it, and only needed a skim coat of filler. BTW: I used a poly Blazer tank under the bed.

later c10
I have a later C10 out of a 74-87 short wide on the rear left step side fender in my 67. If Randy70C10 gets a hold of me this weekend, I will have him take a pic and post it for you. Wootdog

If you put the tank in the bed, will there be enough fall from the filler to the tank to make it fill right?

Whoa this topic was a long time ago, I have had my tank filler installed for ages already, hehe. I guess I should post a pic or two of how it came out, its off of a Lincoln, not sure what year or model anymore(thats how long ago it was, hehe). I think it looks pretty good, and it shoudl work nicely... I picked it up at a wreckers and he basicalyl said take it, it includes the door, filler cap, inside piece, and the actual shaft down to the tank... So i figure I did alright...
