'72 lwb missing rear crossmember?
Getting ready to mount boyd's tank. Just seeing where I need to mount it correctly.
Can anyone tell if the two circled bars are needed, or extra junk left over from PO? Also, am I missing a rear crossmember? Some of the shortbed guys look like they have another one near the bumper that the tank fits in between. |

Here's what I need. Guess I need to get one from porterbuilt. Looks like nothing is there now.

Re: '72 lwb missing rear crossmember?
Is this a wood bed truck? It looks to me that the forward crossmsmber you circled in your first photo is an extra crossmsmber (might be standard on a woodbed) and that the rear crossmember is correct for a longed. Here is a photo of my lwb with a steel bed for reference and you may want to look at this build thread to see how bruce mounted his with a wood floor.

Re: '72 lwb missing rear crossmember?
Thanks for the pic, yeah it is a wood bed.
Looking at your picture, I am missing that last crossmember. The two I circled in the first picture are too low for the wood to sit on, it sits on those crossills about 2-3 inches higher. I am thinking they might be just extra crap the PO had. He had another tank under there at some point. |

Re: '72 lwb missing rear crossmember?
Another way to tell where your cross members should be is of you look at the side of the frame rail there are oval holes everywhere there is supposed to be a cross member. You now have 2 options, find some cross members from a donor truck/forum member or buy the porterbuilt cross member.
I also forgot to pass this nugget of info to you-
