Wiring harness sugestions

OK. It’s about the time to re-wire. I have heard painless wiring harnesses are the best and easiest, but they seem very expensive. I did the traditional Google search and a few companies came up that were quite cheaper. So I am all ears what is the best out there for the price? If painless is the best I do not have a problem spending the money but if there is another company out there that is just as good I would love to hear about them.

I built a camaro recently and used a kit from american autowire. very nice piece. they may have one specific for your truck?

I I bought the same American wire kit off of eBay for about $100 less, be sure to shop around on that.

I'm assuming this kit just has to be adapted with connectors? if so where do you pick up all the proper connectors?

I will be in the market for a wiring harness as well soon myself...
DOes the sppedway kit have all of the connectors, fuse box etc.? Or is it just wires, and from there you are on your own?

I got my harness from Speedway for like $135 and it was complete with fuse box,blinker relay, horn relay, and a all the electric connecters like headlight plugs. Each wire is labeled every few inches and there was plenty of wire length. This is the first vehicle I completly wired but I would use it again for the price for sure..

$135!!!!!!!!!!! :OMG: my america autoo wire kit was over 500 buxs but the best i've used

From what I have been looking at for my truck I'm leaning to the speedway kit to but I'm having trouble hunting down all the connectors but it's the best I have seen for the money and most likely what I will use

You can get the connectors, the copper things inside the connectors I mean for Hot Rod wires in Dallas. I had found the 60-66 AAW harness the cheapest from Carolina Classics.

It seems that most of the cheaper harnesses are missing reverse light wiring, how difficult is it to incorporate this? I would think it would be very easy.

I enjoy wiring so for me it seems easy enough.
AUTO TRANS: You should have a reverse signal wire comming out of your steering column. This wire will have power when you shift into reverse. That power wire needs to be connected to your reverse lights which should already be (case) grounded. Running a seperate ground wire from the reverse light housings to your frame is recommended. Actually, I can't stress how important it is to have a solid grounding system to ensure these old trucks have good strong lights.

MAN TRANS: There should be a switch near the shifter or trans with two wires on it. Normally, there is power 'sitting' on one side of the switch and another wire running out to your reverse lights. When you place the vehicle in Reverse, the switch is made sending power out to your lights via that wire.

See, easy peasy, lemon squeezy....

Speedway 20 circuit kit has more than enough to wire a truck and for $150ish, not completely plug and play but around $300+ cheaper than most kits

I used the 12 circuit kit from Hot Rod Wires, but i have nothing power. I built my truck to be as simple as possible. I had no problem with the kit, I enjoy doing wiring.

Just an opinion- the cheaper the price the cheaper the quality. Installed an EZ wiring harness for a customer a while back. Hands down the cheapest piece of junk I ever tried to wire a truck with. Circuits are completely inadequate, no place to add anything and odd wire lengths/terminations.
There's a reason why Ron Francis, American Autowire and Painless cost more- you get more with the kit and a better, proven/tested product. Those cheap kits on Summit and Ebay are cheap for a reason.

From what I've seen, a lesser expensive kit that seems really well designed is the Rebel Wire kit.
