Serp conversion
In case anybody is considering the conversion and losing the V-belts. I removed the entire serpentine system off a 91 GMC Sierra this weekend. It had the 5.7 motor. I looked at several trucks with it but this was the only one with the factory OEM a/c brackets using the sanden type compressor. Since I'm running Vintage Air, this was exactly what I was looking for. There are two types of brackets on the P/S. One has an additional bracket for an air pump. It's ugly and not used so I choose the other type that only mounts the A/C and tensioner. A much cleaner look and easier to maintain for sure. After I get it mounted up on my engine, I'll pull it off and get it powder coated and take some photos of the end result. I purchased a new water pump (reverse rotation) and will be using the electric fans I already had.

Re: Serp conversion
Oh, yeah….there has been a million serpentine threads around here over the years. Here is the most informative that is located in the FAQ section. You will love serpentine! I converted my ’78 old 350 to serpentine back in 1996 before it was all the rage and internet forums to research. Back then, you buy the parts and carry on into unchartered territories.

Re: Serp conversion
Once again thanks Larry. I had to chuckle about the comment in post #7 about needing a "reverse rotation" power steering pump....fail lol
Otherwise, good info. As usual, I typically learn by trial and error. |

Re: Serp conversion
good info, I think you and I are doing a very similar build. I have a 70 K10. I got my tank mounted and had your post up for reference when I was making my steel shopping list. I seen a serp assy on ebay the guy wanted something like 400 bucks for it. What did you have to give for yours? I'm about half scared to ask the local scrap yard that what they want for one...these guys that are somewhat local are pretty expensive and I can't pull my own parts which is a problem all unto it's own.
