Dynomax Headers
I am going to buy some dynomax cerama-coat headers and was wondering if you guys that have them like them or not.

I installed a set on mine in 1997, they rotted through at the collectors after about 5 years. Other brands lasted 2-3 years so I guess thet are somewhat better. They fit fine and changing spark plugs was no problem.

I bought a set of AK5000 Blackjack alumacoats years ago. They had a lifetime coating warranty. Blackjack was bought by Walker and they honored the warranty by replacing the AKs with a set of ceramics. The coating didn't hold up very well. The car was hardly driven and just kept in the garage. I would guess that more driving would have been easier on them! Very good customer service, however! I would consider another set because of that.
Heddmans are my favorite headers, but they'll cost you much more than the Dynomax coated headers will FWIW.

I bought a set of dynomax coated headers 2 years ago for my 70 with a 350. They required clearancing (denting) to clear the driver's lower a-arm mount. The coating is starting to rust through this year, even though I dont put many miles on the truck and dont drive it in salt.
They are pretty inexpensive for a coated header, so you get what you pay for. I wouldn't expect the coating to last as long as an aftermarket coating job like HPC, etc.

My DynoMax ceramic coated headers came with a Lifetime Warrantee against rust and/or discoloration. They are coated by Jet-Hot, which IS an aftermarket company like HPC. They are also the same as the ones in Alexis's pic ... made for 67-78 Chevelle/Malibu with Small Block Chevy. Bought mine from Jeg's ... somewhere around $219-229 if I remember correctly. And mine fit like they were made for our trucks ... no mods needed.

Ya the ones im getting also come with the lifetime warranty against rust and discoloration. The Jet-Hot coating. I guess even if they do rust you can just send them in and get some new ones.

I bought Hooker headers direct from JetHot and they didnt last one year. One of the main guys from JetHot started a copmpany in Okla called Airborne Coatings. I have heard it is much better! I just had my new headers powder coated with 1200 degree powder coat. The guy that did them does sprint car headers and isnt having any problems with them. You can actually use still wool on them I'm told.

Hey Jon, how's it going. I just recently bought a set of those headers for the 454 I'm swapping in. I haven't fired the engine so can't give any details about how well the are going to last. I will attach a pic but since this is a 454 going in a 4wd the fitment won't be the same as with your factory big block. I did have to do some clearancing but I'm thinking you should be fine. These are the 67-87 BBC headers for a 2wd.

Put a set of jetcoated ones on the 402 about 2.5 years ago and the coating is now flaking off. Yes they have a lifetime warranty but i will be without my truck for however long it takes them to replace the headers. I will get them sent in eventually. I'm curious if other brand header with jet coat have the same problem.
I had no clearance problems, they will slide in from the top or the bottom with no problems. |

My JetHot headers rusted through from the inside out in about 6 months. They looked bad! Talked to another guy one night that had a set on his mini rod and they turned blue on him from the heat. he had all kinds of problems with JetHot doing anything about it.

I bought a set a few years ago for my other 71' I had. They would not clear the frame rail on the passenger side. They were the 3/4 Length for the chevelle but wouldnt clear.

My truck has Hooker Super Comps that were originally ceramic coated. When I bought the truck 2 years ago the coating was almost gone so I wire brushed the rest off and sprayed them with 1500° aluminum paint. I have to touch them up every few months to keep them up. I was planning on buying Flowtech ceramics but now you guys have me thinking. I probably should just keep what I got if this ceramic coating doesn't last.

Bought mine through Jegs andafter a year, mine started to get a little surface rust. I wasnt ready at the time for the truck to be on the road so I called Jegs about the lifetime warranty and Jegs hooked me up with Jet Hot Coatings. Jet Hot Coatings asked me to ship back the headers and they recoated the headers for the cost of shipping($20). Been fine ever since. I did have to send in a reciept though. I like mine though i would like them tucked under a little more. With my lowered truck, they sit about 4" off of the groung. Gotta be real careful around speed bumps. Hope this helps, Guy
