interesting, there is a cover over the top of the cutout for the steering column...
...also, what kind of transmission would one of these be running? a 5 spd OD? Could it be used in a smaller truck?

You would think a truck that size would have a much larger (diesel) engine.....

The 5 speed is most likely a Clark. It could be overdrive or not (probably not).

I remember reading an article in 4WOR about converting to a Clark truck transmission, there were many types but there was a certain model that had a granny low and OD 5th, kinda like a NV4500 on steroids. Hmm.

For any given time period there were close and wide ratio 5spds and an overdrive 5spd availible. Those 5spds are also very big because they were used in the "light" trucks and the loadstars (heavy trucks/semi's) |

yeah, those t-34's are pretty rare from what i hear...i think they started offering them, as well as the t-35 (w/o OD) in 1965 in the light trucks, and offered them til '75. They cost more than the auto and the 4 speed, and no one really cared about gas back then, so no surprise they're so rare. But they were the same exact trannies as used in the loadstar, alot of IH guys source theirs from junked buses or old grain trucks. lol I want to get an IH truck someday, I learned stick on one, and know a bit about them...but the GMC just came along first (a sign?)

I know where there is a 60 - 66 Chevy one ton that has the GMC V-6 in it...it looks stock, but for all I know it was installed later.
Don't forget the 366 and 427 tall deck truck engines that went into the big trucks. I know the 427 was in these, and pretty sure the 366 was too. 1969 GMC, the cover on the cut out you were refering to is like that on most all C40 and bigger trucks. It is one of the things you gotta look at on e-bay panels that have vac guages in them. A new bezel for a smaller truck will bolt right on and fix it up for a pick up. |

i dont think the V-12 came in trucks as small as a C/50, I think they came in larger trucks with more room under the hood
