Driveshafts for Long Bed
So I have a longbed, and a 1-piece driveshaft. i remember my '66 and '71 both having carrier bearings. Which models got 1-piece shafts and which got 2-piece? Just wondering since I'm putting my truck back together... which is right?

Re: Driveshafts for Long Bed
I have a 69 longbed with a 2 piece, but if you have a one piece, take it and run with it, I will have to pay to get one built

If it's a long wheel base and has a properly done 2 peice drive shaft it will last for a long long time. Mine is going on 15 years.

Re: Driveshafts for Long Bed
I've got a 69 and am looking to put a 1-piece in. Anyone have apart number or info on how to get one? Where to look? How to change it over?

Re: Driveshafts for Long Bed
when you have a one piece drive shaft on a long bed you have less ground clearance for the shaft and the shaft has to be a lot bigger diameter to go that distance.

Re: Driveshafts for Long Bed
OK really what I wanted to find out is which uses what. I'm gonna guess 2 things, but I may be wrong:
1. Short beds got 1 piece driveshafts, long beds got 2 piece. 2. I have a 1 piece driveshaft because it was lowered 6" by the PO and that's too low for the joint on the Carrier bearing, and didn't know that you can flip the bearing and mount on the top. I will check with some driveline places and see what they recommend. I'm only dropped 5", but who knows, that might be the cutoff. Dunno. I know that my '02 Silverado is a 1-piece and it's gone 130k. But that's a different setup. Much larger diameter shaft. |
