Carb replacement - Holley...or ????
No, I don't want to start a war.
Just looking for opinions, BTDTs for replacement carbs. Currently I have a stock 350 with a 9 year old Holley 600 CFM, manual choke (4650?, I forget) on an Edelbrock Performer intake, mild Summit cam, HEI and headers. Not looking to burn rubber in all gears; just like cruisin' down the highway. Decent gas mileage (>12MPG) would be a plus! So, its - rebuild the antique Holley, get a new one or some other brand. Any suggestions?? Also, are there any real benefits to going to an automatic choke? Thanks,

I love edlebrock go with the 600 cfm It's a nice mild carb, I know a lot of people with theses carbs and they're real happy with them, One real nice feature I found is once you get them set right, they run like that for a long time, and I would recommend the electric choke they work good on theses carbs. sounds like I work for edlebrock don't it, I just think there awesome carbs. I put the 600 cfm on my 460 and haven't touched it in two years runs perfect

Edelbrock. Easy to tune (if you want). I dropped mine on the original 307, ran like a champ, never tuned it. Swapped same carb over to the 350 in the sig, runs like a champ, no tuning (yet). I ran a holley before, couldn't get it tuned right. My dad has a holley on his somewhat radical 350 and has had some difficulty tuning it (but he also has a lopey cam and probably too much carb IMO).
One of the highest mileages I've seen posted here was on a burb with an Edelbrock carb. Both are fine products and either will fit your bill. Just make sure you don't overdo the CFM rating (600 is good). I still like Edelbrock, but I don't like 'setting up' the carb either (and you can smell it in the exhaust too).

JET Stage III Q-jet. Have them on both of my trucks and love 'em!

The edelbrock is a little more idiot proof, but I prefer Q-jets, because they have tiny primaries for off idle torque and mileage, but large secondaries for big time flow at the top. They are a little more finnicky though. For maintenence free longevity, I'd say run Edelbrock, if you are comfortable with tuning, then I'd say step up to the Q-jet.

Always ran a holley until I bought my Edelbrock. No float adjusting crap and that I love. Put it on the motor adjusted the idle and havent looked back.
