Rear Frame Mount for 71 Blazer

So I am slowly upgrading the Beast, and one of the next steps is replacing the old worn body bushings with new ones. I'm leaning towards the Ploy-graphite ones from Prothane.

So looking over the Blazer I found that the Rear Frame mount by the rear bumper is completely rusted out.

I went looking for a replacement mount or If I couldn't find one fab one up.

I found this on the Brother's website

I can't tell if this is the right mount for that location any thoughts

The very last mounts are boxed sheet metal that are welded to the floor....
The second to last mounts are rivited to the top of the frame....

So are you saying this is a no go?

I was looking at this picture in the service manual and it looks like the Brother's part...



But from what you are saying it appears as if this part is not correct

Here are a few pictures of the mounts on my frame. Like mcmlxix said the rear mounts are the fame rail at least on my frame anyway which is a 70 K5 Frame. the second to last mounts are the one's in the photo. The one you have in the firs post may be for a truck frame because none of mine look that way. You will have better luck looking in the classifieds for the mounts you need, they come up for sale often. Hope this helped.

So I got the mounts from hgs_notes and they were great, but then I realized that they were for mounting position #4. (Just like you said....I am pretty dense at times.)

What I really needed was mounting bracket/plate for postion #5.
The following pics are what I am dealing with....

Passenger side mount looking towards the drivers side


Same mount but from the back side (Ie taken from drivers side and looking towards the passenger side.


Drivers side is not much better. I am hoping that this is a simple cut and fab job and nothing more...

But I am confused as to how the body bolt is stabilized. It looks like a simple box but there is no support for the bolt.

It can move and back and forth like this...


Anyone with good pictures or description for this fix would be greatly appreciated.

On a good note, the guy I bought the car from said he put in a 327 V8. After taking it in for quick tune up, I found out that I have a 350 or at least that is what the casting numbers tell me.

I just did all my body mounts and most of the job was good, however the bolts on the driver & pass side floor

Did you have to replace any of the Frame mounts or just the bushings?

If the frame mounts, where did you get them?

I'd rather buy one then fab something up, but it is looking like I just may have to.

To be honest, I did not replace any frame mounts, however I probably should have replaced the rear sheet metal/frames. They are very rusted!!

I just treated the rust and painted them so it would not spread any more.

Someone on had them for sale recently on the parts board. Can't recall who right now, sorry

The mount is built from sheet metal. In the center of the mount is a tube that the bolt runs through the center to prevent it from crushing. I don't believe they are being reproduced. You could check with one the the vendors who sell new reproduction parts... They would know if its available.

only way to get them is to buy the tail pan section for a truck and either cut them off or replace the the whole thing. or you could do like i plan too and make your own from some 2x4 box and a metal bushing.

Thanks for the input. It seems a bit overkill to get the whole tail pan just for the bracket. If it were rusted it would be a no brainer to do it that way.

If you are going to make some of those boxes do you mind making two more. I'd compensate you for your labor of course.

I would gladly do that for you but if your needing them soon, im no where near that point yet.

Great starter project... If you hire someone to do all the resto work... you might as well shop for a finished ride and save yourself a bundle. Don't look at it as one big project, think of it as a buch of little projects. Jump in and do what you can and you'll be hell'a more proud of what you brought to the picnic....

1) Measure the old piece and make a template.
2) Cut the new piece out of some 18 gauge metal (tin snips will do the trick).
3) Fold it with a fancy sheet metal brake and a hammer (see below).
4) Follow steps 2 and 3 once more and then take a minute to admire your work.
5) Tack your new pieces in place and move on to the next project...!!!

Wow that looks great RestoRod. I will try to get that started this weekend.
My only questions is what did you use inside of the box to secure the bolt? A long metal bushing? Or did you just cut a hole in the bottom of the box and call it a day?

I am just hoping my box is still intact enough to get some decent measurements.
