Box Surface mount gas tanks
I decided to use a surface mount gas tank at the front of the truck bed Short box step side. I have looked on line and have not been able to find what I want (a round tank ) may not be availible . Any how , I was wondering if any of you have a suirface mounted gas tank and if so do you have pic's you can put here?
I have no intentions of hauling anything , this will not be a working truck. |

Re: Box Surface mount gas tanks
I am loving my 40 gal suburban tank under the bed! 30 gal Blazer tank will probly fit under the bed of a SB truck?

Re: Box Surface mount gas tanks
Try Speedway Motors. Most round tanks though are going to give you the range of a slingshot.

Re: Box Surface mount gas tanks
I had a 20 gallon fuel cell in the corner of my bed and it wasn't the greatest idea. The tank heated up in the sun and would vent fuel if full. It was also hard to get full for a road trip as the fill was directly on top of tank while leaning over a towel on the bedside to keep from scratching it with the fill hose. I switched to an under bed rear mount and love it.
If you're set on a round tank I would find a pipefitting / mechanical contracter near you and get one made out of a piece of thin wall stainless pipe. 14" diameter and 36" long is 24 gallons. I just made one (14diax20len) for a small crane in our shop last month and it wasn't very difficult, just took some time and pipe from the less than full length pile. Fabricate the filler neck above the tank level and vent it well above the tank top.

Re: Box Surface mount gas tanks
Thanks guys , but after reading lowrollin70gmc's post . I think maybe I should go to the under bed tank. I thought about having to lean over the side to fill it and thats the catch , not a good idea.

Re: Box Surface mount gas tanks
Go to a Junk yard and get a 30 gal Blazer tank with skid plate and cross members,,I put in the 40 gal and it barely fit under the Long bed,,so a smaller tank should be good for the SB truck.
