How can I tell what rear brakes I have.

I need to put new shoes on the back and will probably put new drums on as well. This issue is that my 85 came with a 10 bolt and I swapped it out for a 12 bolt. So the SPID sticker doesn't coencide with what is in there now. Can I just take a shoe and drum to the parts store and have them measure them. What about wheel cylinders, axle seals and such.

Is there any type of numbers on the rear end that will tell me maybe what it is. I am not sure what year the rear end even is.

if i recall the numbers on a 12 are just to the right of the pot on the shafts or they are on the pot itself

When i replaced my shoes on my 12 bolt the size was stamped on the shoe itself.

As needed, take your old parts with you. The only way to be sure your getting the same stuff. Who knows who swapped what over the years and how accurate the "computer" at the parts store is.

I'm kinda like duct tape- no real purpose, but handy to have around.

Flip the brake drum over and use a tape measure to get the diameter. Then measure the width of the friction material on the brake shoes to get the width.
