Fuel issue

So I just finished a rewire of the whole truck with no issues. I drove the truck last night with out a problem. Today I filled up with 90 octane and drove to Lowes and then home. From Lowes to my house I started to have a hesitation problem when I got on the gas, kind of like fuel starvation. I just swapped out the filter and some hoses to make sure that wasn't the problem, it wasn't. I also had to replace the gaskets for the carb and swapped the jets out that was last night. At this point I'm at a loss for the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is just a guess, but maybe fuel pump? Have you tested the pressure? Otherwise I'd say maybe a stuck float.

If you just filled up, you may have gotten some water with your gas. This is a bargain, you get water for around $4.00 per gal. Try some gas dryer. Just a thought.

What carb? Why did you change the jets? Smaller or larger?

Gary; Jets are the same size, its an Edelbrock 600. The floats worked just fine I checked them good movement.

Hawghauler; I got a bargain on the water $3.89 a gallon.

Midlifer; I'll have to check the fuel pump later. I'll start with the gas dryer tomorrow. That's the cheaper route at the moment. Easier and cheaper is always the first choice especially around the holidays.Thanks guys. I'll post the results when I get done.

I had a similar situation once. The truck sat for quite some time til I put the crate motor in. Everything was fine until I filled up. The fill-up knocked loose all the scale and rust in my tank and clogged the carb filter.

You say your hoses and filter were OK.

Don't forget the rubber hose under the truck between the tank line and frame rail.
Could also possibly be a clogged sock on the sending unit.

I put some HEET in the gas thinking that would help, it didn't. So I drove it some more to see what else it might be. The truck accelerates pretty good in first gear once it shifts to second the motor starts to bog down. If I keep the accelerator floored it continues to bog down and sounds like its missing. When I let off the gas for a second or two and then slowly push the accelerator down it does fine. The fuel filter is clean so I'm sure its not the fuel at this point. I'm now leaning towards the carb maybe I messed something up when I replaced the gaskets. It rev's up just fine in park/neutral. Does anybody have some other ideas?

maybe a vacuum issue from a leak around the carb base gasket? WOT would yield a quick change as a slow accelration would yield a less agressive reaction if there is a leak

I'll check that this weekend. I hope that's what is. That's a free fix. Drove it today to work and it drove well. I still need to stuff to do but its drivable.

I had a truck do this one time and it was the distributor. Changed that out and ran fine.

Make sure you check your ignition system. It can give similar symptoms to what you are describing. Check the fuel flow, and if that is okay check your vacuum and centrifugal advances. Double check your plugs condition, too.
