Engine Identification

I'm trying to figure out what engine is in a new project. The front pad is stamped with F06I7M and the rear of the block was cast with 3849352.

I was just going to post the same exact thing. It looks like the 3 should be an 8.

Re: Engine Identification

I have also been finding that 3849852 goes back to '58.

"M' also decodes to a '58 283 in a truck with a manual trans.

I would look for a Date Code next. It will also be on the back of the engine and will be between what looks like 2 Slotted Screw Heads.

Re: Engine Identification

I'll do a little more cleaning and try to get a better look. The engine is still in the vehicle and it's a little hard to see.

Re: Engine Identification

I double checked the number and it is 3849852 as suggested. I haven't been able to find the date code. Is it in the same area?

Re: Engine Identification

The Date Code can also be on the Flat Part, like how the Casting Numbers are, but either next to it or on the other side of it.
