1970 k10 "War Machine"
Where to start. I've owned this truck for the past fifteen years, I bought the truck as parts and it sat for quite awhile. After finding room in the barn to work on something I stripped the cab and box off and cleaned the frame and coated it in a rubberized underbody paint, not the best I know but it holds up really well over time. I got another cab that was in better condition that a po had patched all the rust. I then got a 700r4 np 208 combo out of another parts suburban that had just been rebuilt. I mated that with the 350 I had in my cheyenne and mounted them in the frame. Then the cab got mounted with a new kit from lmc. It sat for six months then I got a better job and cash flow increased again. In the past month I've cut the driveshaft down got a new wire harness from painless installed and put all the accessories on the motor. Also rebuilt the edlebrock carb and she fired up and purred like a kitten. I finally wired 220 into the barn bought pipes and two magnaflow mufflers and welded up my own exhaust. I must admit it sounds great lol. I then used the tci lock up kit on the 700r4 and decided to put water in the rad and let the truck warm up. So I did so. After reaching running temp I shut it down and checked Fluid levels. The tranny has a milky fluid in it which means water is mixed in the fluid. And from reading about it once you get water in there it's ruined. So in the next week/month I'll be swapping the 700r4 np208 out for the stock 465 np205 combo. I figure I can start a thread now to document the progress and the disasters that happen along the way. I can't upload pic with my phone so I'll add some later.

Cant wait to see how this turnes out, and have you thaught about using a nv4500 instead of the stock, it has close to the same first gear ratio and it has O.D.

Re: 1970 k10 "War Machine"
Ok so now that holidays are over I can get back to business on the truck. Got started after lunch unbolting everything and taking off anything that was connected to the tranny. Dropped the tranny and t-case and dragged it out from under the truck. I also gathered my clutch parts and saw the flex wheel had gotten rusty so tomorrow it'll get a quick resurface then it'll be good to go. Also going to start getting hydraulic clutch parts.
I thought about using a nv4500 in the future but right now this is the cheapest and quickest solution. I want to use the truck as my dd and for my sled so I need it ASAP. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 1970 k10 "War Machine"
My dad and I took the task of wrestling the new trannsmision and t-case in. It actually went in really smoothly only took us about an hour. I thought it was going to be a nightmare. I have to get a new starter now and new u-joints for the driveshafts and it should be mobile. I'm hoping for next weekend to get it out of the shop to get the box on it.

Got the starter and hydro clutch in today and moved it around about a foot. Tomorrow I'll get it outside and take a pic or three.

Re: 1970 k10 "War Machine"
So its been awhile since the last update, my computer died and I hate using my phone for forums so Ive been waiting to get a new computer before I could get back on here with constant updates. Well computer is built and its back to updates.
I got it all together since I last updated, I had it on the road and had a leak in the rear brake hose so I stopped filling it till I was able to get back at it, well I hit a roadblock and they went through my truck with a fine tooth come finding the brake res for the rear empty the gave me a vehicle inspection. Ive finally acquired all the parts needed to finish it to pass inspection(its quite the big deal to get done). So its back in the shop and its time to start working on it again. update will have pics now but they will be crappy iphone pics till I can get a better camera. Heres a few picks of the truck when I got it together and got it on the road.

Re: 1970 k10 "War Machine"
I finally started to get to work on this truck regularly again now that my health is starting to come back. Ive got a few lil things done here and there like the rear brakes and all new cables and parking brake cables and now have a functioning e-brake, should be nice considering the truck is a manual transmission. Yesterday I started the arduous take of replacing the spring bushings, I was going to wait for a lift kit but it wont pass inspection with these old ones so I said time to get it done. yesterday I got the passenger side out cleaned it painted it and pressed the new bushings in. Once I get new u-bolts tuesday theyll be installed Started the drivers side this morning and got the sawzall out and hacked out the front bolt the burned the bushing and smashed the old bolt out I cleaned the frame shackle bushing housing and started to press the new one in, it would go, every time I tried it would shift. Finally got it apart again and looked and well damn, guess somehow it took an impact and is bent in well I grabbed a file and went to work and its good to go now and then finished it...YES! so happy the bushing is in, the simple things really right ahha well time for some beer and a rest and get back at it in the morning. how to have it all done by next weeknd.
