Too many keys

I’ve got three different squares and six different keys. Always one to simplify, I’d like to key all three trucks the same. Anyone know where a feller could pick up three ignition cylinders and a half dozen door cylinders that are all keyed the same, or do I need to go to a Locksmith for this?

Take the cores to a locksmith, he should be able to "recode" them. It's a much newer vehicle, but I recently had an issue with my wife's 2009 Suburban and in lieu of paying an exhorbitant amount to fix it I learned how to recode the cylinder which is basically just swapping numbered tumblers.

I doubt that a retailer who sells the matched sets knows how to get three of the same sets.

And thank you for the great idea! How cool would it by if my 1950, 1971 and 1987 were all keyed the same?

Might just be easier to have you main key ring, with your house, mailbox, and whatever other keys on it. Then, for each truck make a key ring with all the keys associated with that vehicle. Use a carabiner or linking key chain on your main key ring, and attach whatever vehicle ring you will be taking at that time. Should keep some of the clutter down in your pocket.

I'm sure this isn't what you are looking for but it's a simple answer to what sounds like a pretty expensive and time consuming task.

Find someone(s) with a CUCV military truck and swap with them. All CUCVs were keyed the same so you could find 3 different people and as long as they hadn't be change previously you should end up with 3 identical sets. Of course would be best if they were local so you could confirm.

I had to replace the rear window crank and lock cylinder in my 79 Blazer and wanted it keyed to my doors. I can't remember what the locksmith charged, but it was less than $20 for the one cylinder. That could add up over three trucks but it can be done. I have a separate keychain for each car with a house key on each. I can't stand a wad of keys in my pocket, I just grab keys to what I want to drive.

I leave the keys for each of my vehicles in the vehicles........they each have the house key, mailbox keys and possibly toolbox keys if there are any. I don't carry a whole set of keys with every vehicle key on it.

Nothing worse than jumping in a different vehicle to go for a drive to town and I can't get the mail because I don't have a key.

But I do like the idea of similar keyed vehicles! Especially if they are similar vehicles that would have the same style keys!

I carry a small set of both trucks and both cars in my pocket
hooks to larger with 3 auto starts,+ work keys
and it hooks to a neck strap handle
I looked into it and it was about 20 per lock

then a friend who runs his shop with cube vans,
said he it was easier to use them till keys were lost and people quit
then stuff went missing over night,and one was stolen,drivin and abandoned (out of gas)using keys
he quietly changed them back to seperates

Classic Industries (I think its them anyway) sells a kit to make your doors and your ignition the same key. You might want to check that out, you could probably get blank ignition cylinders too.

Door locks can be keyed to the ignition key (one truck, one key). If you buy door locks at the dealership, you have the option of pre-keyed, or blanks, and they'll wafer it to your exisiting key.

You will need to see a locksmith if you want the ignition keys to be the same, and at the same time, you can get the doors keyed to the same key. "E" blanks where common between the two back when I got mine. Probably still the case since my last generic door lock set from Napa was also on an E blank.
