airbags on slightly raised C10
Hi guys
Im looking at having Ricky at quality air rides make me a set of custom airbag cups to get my 71 C10 sitting at just slightly over stock (1-2"). He said that since he doesnt have a truck there to measure that i would have to get under my truck and unbolt everything and measure it out. Problem is that i sorta need my truck driveable at this moment. Have any of you guys had custom airbag cups made? Or do any of you guys happen to know the distance from the frame to the lower control arm (for the front) and the distance from frame to spring pocket on the trailing arm in back? Seems like this cup would be pretty tall... on the order of 5+ inches? Obviously, im very new to this airbag stuff so any help is greatly appreciated! |

Maybe the mods could move this over to the suspension section. I don't see where adding taller cups would be dififcult. A taller cup on the bottom of the bag on the lower "a" arm and taller cup on the top of the bag in the rear. I don't really have any measurements for you though.

Well I've seen bagged trucks without drop spindles and 3" cups and they sit up pretty high almost stock height. Maybe try a 6" lower cup and see what happens. You can always trim some off or add a bigger cup. Only one bolt holding the cup to the bag. Easy to swap out.

that makes sense for the back.
as for the front... ive been thinking and looking at this: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=129463 im not quite sure how the front bags can ever be taller than the spindles i have in there. Upper/lower A Arms are usually "parallel" right? and the spindle joins them on one side. So if the spindle is fixed length, how could airbags raise or lower the truck? what am i missing?? thanks |

The bottom of the bag sits in the lower A arm, the top sits in a pocket in the crossmember. The spindle connects to the upper and lower A arms. So essentially, when you inflate the bag, it moves the lower A arm away from your crossmember...not the upper A arm. I may have confused myself here a bit so let me know if I can explain more or if I'm just frustrating you.

put the taller cup on the top. this way the bag can still "move" and articulate with the lower arm.
its really a pretty easy thing to do, 6'inch pipe cut it to the length you need. add or take away as you figure out how long you need. |

One ton coils will raise a C/10 1"-2". I believe you can buy Air Lift bags for those. They sell bags to go inside rear coils,I know that. On a '70 C/10 I installed new C/20 coils and Air Lifts. I could jack that thing way up at max air or run the minimum and it sat about stock with a steel work top,tools,and ladders. I'd air them up just a bit to accommodate the load.
www.airliftcompany.com Also,www.awdirect.com sells auxiliary air springs,not air bags. Those will stiffen it up with no adjustability.

How was the ride with the C20 coils and air bags maxed out? How many inches did you gain running like that? |
